A few weeks ago I was driving to work at about 4:30 am. My street has no lights and there are none of the other side of the intersection either so nothing in the road would be backlit. I wasnt doing more than 35 or so when a dead pine tree appeared in the middle of the street in front of me. I swerved and had to go partially into the ditch to miss it but still whacked the top branch. Damn thing put a nice dent in the a pillar, fender and smacked my mirror although it just moved where it was pointed. The worst part though is that it snapped the antenna off leaving the threads in and literally started to warp the fender because the base moved. Then a few days later I noticed my dash has a nice crack in it...

Anyway I attached the pics but Im wondering has anyone here shaved the antenna base and either gone with a hidden antenna or relocated it? I have a hidden antenna on its way to test out. Without an antenna most stations come in pretty clear (one is actually really clear lol) so I figure it cant be worse.

Can't you remove the antenna base and replace it? Looks like it was rusting out anyways. Stinks about the dings and dents though. Hate when things like that happen.

Yea youre telling me... I guess I could just replace the base and might just end up doing that. Im not using insurance on this one since Ive used it like 3 times in the last couple of years since my car is a magnet for idiots to slam into. Im thinking about getting a quote to patch and paint the hole.

Otherwise what Ill probably end up doing is removing the fender, try to straighten out the body as much as possible then get a new base. Thats probably going to be the cheapest way too.

I would be willing to bet a left hand drill bit would get that antenna out. Maybe use a small punch to leave an indention so the bit doesn't walk on you. Once that bit starts to bite it will most likely unscrew it out.

Thats not a bad idea. I tried using an easy out on a broken ect sensor on my old 98 crown vic but it just tore up the metal. I dont know if its the same type of metal though.

Also I got my hidden antenna the other day. I went out to mock it up but you cant even reach behind the dash to temporarily unplug the antenna and I wasnt in the mood to pull the center console. One of these days...

Thanks man. It was very minor but it did some damage and thats what really upsets me. The clutch grenaded, the evaporator core developed a leak, its been rear ended, some dumbass pulled in front of me and I slammed into him, I rear ended a truck, I rear ended a pt cruiser while having a seizure... this poor car has been to hell and back. I cant wait to get another daily so this thing doesnt get into another accident lol.
