Leaking Crank Bolt...

I was getting oil spray on inside of hood ..shop determined it was a leaking crank bolt (i thought it was the crank seal ) got it back and noticed oil puddling on the inside of the pulley ...obviousely not fixed...anyone have any suggestions on the best way to stop this leak ?...thanks

Did you have it out for any reason? Just take it out and but some permatex on the bolt. Should fix your issue.

I had a similar problem a few months back. Removed the pulley, replaced the seal, RTV and bolt. Might be $15 in parts. No more oil spray. That shit is nasty. Probably shouldn't be happening on a new motor, but shit happens.

You're supposed to put a little rtv on the crank pulley around the keyway, to keep out from seeping out. The crank bolt wont leak around the threads or head, so no need to put anything on the threads.
With the bolt needed to be torqued to spec, putting anything on the threads will throw the torque off.

In the instructions that come with UDPs, they tell you to put a dab of silicone (RTV) in the slot in the bore of the crank pulley, the one that lines up with the key. I'd be willing to bet that wasn't done on your motor.

well they kept car overnite to make sure the rtv set completely and so far so good...i think because the crank is double keyed maybe not enough rtv the first go around or just didnt set...thanks for the input guys
