Pretty new to the forum (atleast actually getting on)
Springs around the corner in the Midwest and I wanted to get my 06 GT in good shape. Any tips for what to look for and good products to use?
Also wanted to explore the options of getting her painted/wrapped and if it's worth exploring doing myself. Thanks for reading!

well seeing how i just painted my car last summer, i got all sorts of say on that one lol..

its very very time consuming.. i thought id have the car taped in like 4 hours.. nope a whole day.,

sanding took forever ,, and i mean forever,,

i used a purple harbor freight gun with a 20 gal compressor , with an air dryer on the gun and after the tank,,

i have a post on here of me doing it , ..
it costs me about $1600 in all,, paint supplys, air line stuff , prep , ect ect,,

if i would have used tcp global it would have been about $1300-1400..
i used a company right around the corner from where i live and it costs $1000 a gallon with primer ,,

tcp would have been about $470) shipped

I'll have to take a look at the post, thanks for the info and the $ amounts helps a bunch.

What you asked for "nothing exotic" is the definition of holy grail of paint.
Does that mean blacks the hardest color to do? I do have a little experience in a paint booth.Granted it was a production line with magnetic paint, ovens etc

Is it true that when painting a car that has clear coat the clear must be completely removed before spraying? I was told that the glass all has to come out as well.

Black shows every detail and imperfection. That's why when they are done so well they are so good looking. Black will show everything, so yes
Interesting. Maybe vinyl is the better option for me then as it seems a bit less intimidating

you need to ruff up the old paint to give it something to adhere too ,
i wouldnt paint over the clear coat tho,, definitely wanna go to bare paint,,

wont take long either depending on the grit sandpaper used

I got mine totally resprayed two years ago and it is a big job if you want a colour change and it done properly, Glass all out, and all bolted panels off. Few sample photos to show of it partially rebuilt after shell was resprayed. These photos don't show the level of work involved very well. i lost the earlier photos of the strip down.

Interesting. Black is such an easy color to spray. Easy to match. But it shows every imperfection under it. So your prep work is important. But the actual spraying of black, super easy. White on the other hand...

Clear coat is a bitch too if you don't have proper lighting while spraying, very easy to get runs in it.
