I may have discovered a way to help clean the stripes on our cars. My car is an 08 gt with the matte black stripes, and when i bought the car the stripes were faded and covered in streaks from wax. I went out to try to clean the stripes with detailer but not paying attention i grabbed by mistake some interior cleaner. After using it and thinking "damn the detailer worked", I realized what i did and was surprised how well it worked. So i taped off the remaining stripes and did the rest the same way. I do have to say it made a big difference to which the pics dont do justice and i even washed the car afterwards to see if it stayed on and it did. Its supposed to be nice and sunny tomorrow and then rain here on friday so ill see what it looks like then. Here are some pics to show you guys the results. Just make sure if you try this, to test a spot first just in case i got lucky on my product mistake.

here is what i used

I have always liked that stuff because it makes interiors look "natural" and it's not all greasy. How well does it come off if it gets on the paint/glass though? I have something I've recently started using called adams polishes VRT (vinyl, rubber, and trim). I use it on all the black trim on my car and you can use it on vinyl stripes/decals as well. It has an SPF in it and if it get on paint or glass it wipes right off.

I was actually going to post a thread about my stripes, but saw this one and figured I would jump in. I just had my stripes re-done in November and now that the warm weather is here I'm going to start the exterior detailing. The stripes look good now, and I want to keep them that way. What should and shouldn't I put on them? Can I clay them? glaze? sealant? wax? any help is appreciated.

it came off with no issue but i would still tape off around the stripes to be safe. thats what i ended up doing.

I woudn't put wax on mine if they were matt black, but they are the shiney kind, so I'm thinking the wax will be OK. My stripes are blue if that helps anyone give me advice.

If the stripes are glossy, then I think you can wax and clean them the same as paint. But I would not use VRT on matte stripes because they will add a gloss to it. Chemical Guys have a matte detailer that is safe for paint and matte vinyls. It will clean and provide UV protection without adding a shine to the matte stripes.

Once the damage is done to the stripes I don't think there is going to be anything you can do to really bring them back that is going to last more than maybe a couple days or weeks.
