I'd just try to find one to test drive. Got to a dealer and test drive a 15' auto. Obviously the suspension behavior will be a little different. But you'll know whether or not you like it.

Ideally finding a local guy with a tuned auto would be ideal because the tune makes a difference

The novelty of a manual wears off over time, esp a DD with lots of hills and stop and go traffic. Toss in a power adder, and I would prefer to have 2 hands on the wheel, when things go screwy on you. IMO, an automatic + PD blower = ultimate street car / DD. Mash + dash. My neighbour owned a Porsche Boxster. By the time he figured out how to get from 5th..into 2nd gear, it's too late, I leave him in the dust. Punch the pedal on an auto...and you drop down a bunch of gears..with the blower kicking in asap. Before I did additional suspension mods, the back end would wobble side to side at the top end of 2nd gear. That's when you want both hands on the wheel.

Last summer, I hit a gradual rolling bump at 60+ mph a few blocks away from the house..with my right front. Just about ripped the steering wheel from my left hand. Like an idiot, I had my right hand resting on the shifter. It pulled violently to the left, then violently to the right..then back to center. Never again.

For DD, drag racing, and some autocross, an auto works pretty good. For a road course, the manual is the ticket.

Get stuck in traffic at 5 pm on a pissing down rainy day...going up a steep hill. Move forward 15', then stop, then repeat a doz more times...pita. Wife has arthritis, so a manual was not an option. She only drove the auto once...and never again, so much for that idea. I'm pushing 60, the novelty has not worn off. The ideal ticket would be one of each, but that too was not an option. I did get to drive a buddy's new jag..with paddle shifters. That thing was very smooth. He also has an awd, paddle shifted fusion... it too runs smooth. Neat thing on both of em was, if you came up to a red light in say 5th gear, when you started on the green light, it was in 1st gear..no need to down shift.

So you're old. We get it. That doesn't mean everyone else should have a auto just because you can't handle a manual in traffic anymore.
