Damnit! Newegg had a sale on the hard drives that would of saved me $30. I placed the order and than get an email saying they are out of stock so I'm creek without a paddle since it was a blow out price. Hopefully they get them back in stock otherwise I have to figure out another HDD with those kind of specs and pricing.

Going to get this cooler instead of the Hyper 212+.

Noctua NH-U9B SE2 92mm SSO CPU Cooler

Save the cash and opt for the I5 2500K and OC the shit out of it.

I used to upgrade every 6 months or so, but now I'm more of a "I'll upgrade when it breaks" type. The numbers you're throwing out there are ridiculous. I remember when 400w was a big PSU, 80GB was a big hard drive, and 1GB was enough RAM to run any game. I'm only 23 and I'm talking like a reminiscing 60-something...lol.

Yeah the 16gb is pretty overkill but I wanted more than I'm running currently which meant 12gb but wasn't possible to get in the low profile RAM.

Not that I'm even that old, but when I was starting computers, there was no such thing as a gigabyte or gigahertz. 4 MEGABYTES of ram was $200. My first PC (Intel 8088) didn't even have 1 MEGABYTE of ram and had a 20 MEGABYTE hard drive.

Just think about that for a second. the original Doom game wouldn't even fit on my PC's hard drive. And colour monitors? Ya, maybe if you could dream them up. You were balling if you had a CGA monitor and video card displaying a whopping 3 colours. LMAO

Ditch it and get a Corsair H50, H60, or the H80, they are a little more, but it functions a whole much better than a conventional air cooling system. I put hybrid cooling in all my custom builds for clients, it is much lower maintenance and keeps the machines very quiet and cool. Especially since you are getting an unlocked CPU, the H80 will be a great option to cool that bad boy when o/c'ing, but the H50 is perfect if you are not doing anything too serious.

The Hyper's are great too, never had a problem with running those in budget builds. Quality in any CoolerMaster products is always great. Never had a problem with them, neither Corsair. I only purchase Corsair and CoolerMaster power supplies, they are just made very well and hold up great.

Also, where are you getting these numbers for the CD drives? $80 is insanely high.

Don't forget to purchase thermal paste either - Go with Arctic Silver 5, by far the best stuff out there, I use it on all my repairs and builds.

I was originally going to get the H60 but I decided not to since I had heard a few people having issues mounting the radiator in this case. I looked temps from people with similar builds and this CPU cooler and I was impressed. It's going to be plenty for what I'll be doing until if I ever run a custom water cooler and REALLY turn up the wick on the i7 2600K.

Agreed on the power supplies and exactly why I went with the Corsair Gold. The $80 "CD Drive" is a Blu Ray Burner! Agreed the Artic Silver 5 is good stuff but so is Noctua's thermal paste. It's kind of under of the radar thermal paste. I'll see if I can find the tests that I was looking at that had the AS5 and it nearly the same except the Noctua didn't require a "break in" time to achieve those numbers! Good stuff.

I'm not familiar with the case your going to use, but am with the problem of mounting the radiator and fan for either of the h-series coolers. I didn't see the Bluray so thats why I questioned it. lol.

As far as the thermal paste goes u may have to check this stuff out as my computer is in for a rebuild soon.

You said your old rig was an XPS with q6600 - was it a 630i?

I can't tell you how many times I've heard of folks having difficulties mounting those H60 radiators. All of them in Newegg reviews or people on forums saying they had issues. The reality is, you might have to actually plan the build inside the case once you get your parts.

When I got my H50, this is when Corsair first came out with it, I just modified the case to accept the radiator inside. Since it's sealed, you can't do an outside the case mounting with it, but since you're getting a full ATX tower, there is NO REASON to be worried about getting the H60 as long as you know how to use a dremel and a drill. Hey, you are building your own computer, so BUILD that bad boy! I modified the case and bought different length screws for the rad so that I could mount the rad inside the case, but also have another fan outsside the case in a push/pull configuration.

I just remembered your PM about water cooling. I'd go with the H60 if I were you. Make it fit. It isn't hard, especially if you have some wrenching abilities on your car. Making a rad fit will seem easy.

I'm using the H60 and the NZXT Phantom.. The setup was easy and the case has been great aside from the door for the hardware bays breaking off, it was partially my fault but it broke too easy and could not be repaired..

Case - NZXT Phantom in black(Looks like a star trooper after going through a trash compactor..)
Processor -Core i7 950
RAM - 6 GB [2GBx3] DDR3-1600 Corsair (thinking of upgrading this, but it's been plenty so far)
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 - EVGA Superclocked
MoBo - Asus Sabretooth x58 (basic, but simple and had what I needed.. easily replaced if it dies down the line)
PSU: Corsair AX850

Built it using parts i'd purchased last Black Friday/Cyber Monday for barely more than $900 including Windows 7

Well Newegg received the bulk of my order and refunded me the cost minus shipping. I was told that they weren't going to refund my warranty but they did so I was happy about that. I refused the other package so it'll be on the way back to them. I also received my NZXT Phantom case which I'll be keeping. So here's the case. It's definitely pretty big! I'm really not sure where I'm going to put it as I really don't want it on the floor.

I'm really impressed by the case. The box wasn't in the best shape so I was slightly worried. However it was packaged properly with two thick foam blocks holding it away from the outside of the box.

Everything is nice on the case. I wanted a case that looked quality. I've seen too many that had panels not lining up which they all line up here. It came with a bunch of extras as well. I hope my 200mm fan fits on the top, might need a slightly modification.

Bottom line, I'm pressed. NZXT seems to be making a push.

Well my order is on it's way. A part not mentioned before is a last minute decission.. The fiance wanted my monitor as well so I took the oppurtunity to upgrade to a faster monitor with 2ms. Anyways I have a question for everyone. What is going to be the best way to hook it up? Mini Display Port to HDMI (Monitor)??

mini HDMI to HDMI could work, I couldn't find one in a store local for a decent price and didn't want to wait on shipping, found a DVI to HDMI cable at MAC Mall for $9, accomplishes the same thing..

I will still get those pics to you at some point, I haven't cracked my case open yet

I just wish that monitor had a Display Port. I found all of the cables regardless of the combination for like $9 or cheaper on Amazon.

Which leads me to my next question. Does Display Port offer any better image quality over HDMI?

Hopefully the bulk of my order arrives tomorrow like it's scheduled, ahead of schedule too by the way. However my monitor was shipped out of NJ. It says it has left but I haven't got any other updates so who knows if it got held up because of the hurricane.

I started building this thing and I'm done except for some wiring. I can't figure out the 8 pin ATX power cable. I don't think I've got a cable that will connect to the power supply & the motherboard...?

I would recommend the Corsair hybrid cooling series as well. I have the H50 with a push-pull fan setup and was able to o/c my amd 965 to a stable 3.7GHz. Completely destroys anything I throw at it and it's extremely quiet.
