Bad Penny
I was kinda hoping someone could give me advice on how to do this better. Once a year I take a business trip for a few months. What I would like to have happen is I have the car picked up while I am gone, have it dropped off at a shop and get stuff done to it. Then when I get home, I can play with the car until the next business trip. It doesnt seem to work out too well though. Last time I wanted to turbo the car and do the suspension. I sent out emails to 5 different shops. I didnt get a single reply. Then I called them and they all told me to email them with what I wanted. So I resent the same email and a couple replied, but when I tried to get it all setup, they didnt reply to the next email. When I got home (still hadnt had anything done to the car while I was gone) I decided to have HP Performance in Jax, Fl do the work. They were the closest being only 2 hours away. I kept calling and emailing Tony @ HP to get it nailed down and never could. I mean I would call and say things like, "I have the money sitting in my checking account ready, I just need to know exactly how much you want to order the parts and start the work and when I can bring the car to you." He would tell me to email him what I wanted done, and a week later there still wouldnt be a response. He would answer my first emails, but never the second emails, and then I would have to start all over with him a week later, because he wouldnt remember what I wanted. Finally I just ordered all the parts on my own, and drove the car down with an Expedition full of crap (thanks Jason) to be installed. It took me just showing up with a car and a ton of parts, all the while I sat with a bunch of money I set aside to do this in my checking account for almost 2 months. Once again I am here in a damn desert for the next 4 months, and I am ready to have my motor built, and some other things done. I guess the biggest problem is, I dont live anywhere near any of the shops, so the car would have to be delivered via car carrier (or some other method) and then returned to my home. I obviously want the shop handling the build to set all that up, but no one wants to do business via email, and phone. I cant be there in person to do it. So the questions are directed to people who had motor work done, but live far from the shop that did it; how did you get the car there, what shop did you use, how did you get them to do the deal via the phone/internet? If any shops are reading this and are interested in taking the work on, let me know.
