Need help with factory HIDs

Low-mile '08 GT Premium, with factory HIDs.

Right one didn't come on last night, either high-beam or low. Figured the bulb went out; I'll get a new one. Holy shit! When I saw the price, I thought i'd looked up the assembly, and not just the bulb.

Before I kick down that much, two questions:

• Is there an easy way to confirm it's the bulb, and not the ballast?
• What's involved in replacing the bulb? There's a lot of info on aftermarket HIDs on the board, but couldn't find anything for factory.

Ya, make sure it's the bulb. I have a extra set laying around somewhere because I thought my bulbs where bad as well.

You can find them on ebay for pretty low. I snagged a set of 08/09 GT500 HID's last week for $400 shipped.

I would like to make sure it's the bulb before I kick down for a new one from Ford, or eBay. Is there a trick to replacing these? Looks like a simple connector, but I'm guessing it's not that simple

Including the housings, new?

I would like to replace my housings as they are getting pitted.

That was everything except the wiring harness ( which I already had)

Just keep a look out. There are some experts who can revive pretty badly pitted housings though.

Check the relays first. They have their own separate relay box on the front of the passenger shock tower. There will be two relays in it. Swap the relays and see if the dead light goes to the other side.

I ran out to the garage, swapped 'em, and... no difference. I was really hopeful, though. You can hear each one click, the way it's supposed to.

If it is the bulb, no need to pay ridiculous $$$ unless you want to throw away money. Just hit up ebay. D3R is the bulb type i believe, they can be had for $35-$50 a pair

According to Ford, it's a D1S. The aftermarket shows D3R, which is similar, but not exactly the same. I'm going to tear into it this weekend.
