well, i got my wilwood fnsl6r front kit installed today. they fit. i've got the 18x8 ford racing rims. ha, a little bummed because they don't "look" that big. but the red did shave off .75 seconds on my ride home.

anyway. we'll see how this goes. the kit came with what i think are wilwood BP10 pads (comparing specs on their site and part numbers) and stainless lines for front. they flushed factory fluid out and put in wilwood brand 600xp fluid. nothing in rear was changed at this point. i'll have a closer look at how much clearance is there with these rims a little later.

i think my next move is to go ahead with these bp10 pads and factory pads in the rear for the next track day at road america. take it easy, continue to learn...

Cool!!! Those calipers are...yeah...they don't look that big. I bet Road America is a bitch for brakes, especially the first three or four turns.

Now...what to do about those 8" wide rims...hmm....what to do...

there's a solid 1/2" clearance between the rims and calipers.

Just out of curiosity, what made you go with the FNSL6R over the W6A kit? It seems the latter would be much better suited to road course driving and the former is more suited to drag racing. I may be making incorrect assumptions though, so please educate me on your research and methodology.

the information i have is that the w6a would be .42" closer to my spoke than the narrows. so yeah, they probably would have fit. in a perfect world i would have gotten both kits i guess, and returned the w6a if they didn't clear.

i had never found any decent info on whether people have or what to, they upgraded with 8" wide rims. everyone has or recommends 9.5" or 10" wide rims.

the stoptech templates i printed and applied to my wheel was the best indicator of fitment for that route...

finally, i think i'm going to stay a low-level either due to lack of experience and desire to not kill my daily driver. maybe this will help with my mindset to: i'm as happy as i can be with the fact that these fit given that i have stock tires and 8" wide rims. plus another set of 8" rims for winter tires :)

BP10 is the street pad. All of the hot rod kits ship with that pad.

BP20 is the next step up, I like them better than the 10 but if you are hard on brakes they will vaporize in a track day.

As your driver level improves, the "E" pad will be the one you want to run. It is a "race" pad, but we all run them on the street without issue.

3/8th of an inch is what my factory brake pads have left. 8500 miles and only 1 track day (not a full one at that). no other hard or sporty braking. damn, i forgot to measure the bp10 pads, i'll have to look up and see if there are specs when new.

thanks for info on pads. i'm not married to wilwood, but we'll see.

on my commute today, i noted the pedal feels a lot firmer, or becomes firm much quicker than it did. it feels more like "new". i noticed during the event and since that pedal travel increased and didn't feel as firm. so lines, fluid and new brakes have come together. i'm sure when brakes get used they all kind of settle down and get softer. but oh well. now i'm really interested in seeing how it is on track.

it's too bad i don't have more experience with other brakes/setups on this car for a comparison... the track will tell the story.
