Newborn here looking for information on 02 extension with out the harness..longtubes

Ive just installed a set of Longtubes on my 05 Gt 5speed and I didn't order the extension harness thought I had an extra one from previous different year model build but I didnt....

Asking because I get the idea that some do and some dont use them....

If I wanted to lengthening my 02 sensor wires could I? And if so is crimp better than soldier?

If not will infact as I have read so much on will the top wiring sensor come down enough to reach....I worked with it...and have the plastic tab loose atop the transmission but it appears to me the harness is only about 5 inches before it goes into the rest of the engine harness and looks like u would have to remove the wire loom to get it out....


Ive searched a few times from this phone today but cant find any definite answers....anyone care to help a newborn here with out sarcasm.....lol...

I did not need them when I installed mine. I removed the one clipped at the top of the transmission, and I believe there was one farther back on the transmission.

Extensions always seems to cause issues.

I soldered mine, no issues.

never crimp, always solder. and the extensions arent usually necessary

I crimped mine and then went back a soldered them. Extensions suck because the give you way too much length for most applications and then you have to wrap up the wire somewhere. There's only four wires so it's pretty simple. Just measure and splice in between the pigtails.

I actually getting ready to solder in a capacitor and resistor between the front and rear sensors for my homemade O2 sims.

Ok guys thanks for some solid info.....

Im correct then in cutting the actual 02 sensor its self into and lengthening it....what I had hope to do...I know new extension are only $21 but with some problems I read about here on the forums I figured I could do this instead and be just as safe....just didnt want to cut it and find something I couldn't fix and have to buy a new 02 sensor instead.....

Go ahead and cut them and get a high quality heat shrink while your at it.
The kind with the adhesive/sealant that squishes out when you heat it.
