I now have 6 track days on my Nitto NT01s and they are nicely worn down to just the two longitudinal grooves with lots of tread left.

How do I tell if they may have been heat cycled to their limit even though they are not yet work out?

This is my first time using R-comps.

The scientific approach would be to use a durometer to measure the hardness of the rubber, but the rule of thumb is that when they stop gripping when you know they should, or your lap times start to increase for no apparent reason, then they're done. After you go through a set or three, you'll have a pretty good feel for how many cycles they'll take before they become junk.

Rule of thumb: We get about 4 weekends out of a set of NT01s before they are toast (or relegated to practice-only tires).

You can burn them up faster if you are a very aggressive driver.

They won't grip worth shit. I'm still using a set of old, crusty Rs for autocross. At this point I'm not sure they have any advantage over street tires, other than sparing my street tires from further wear.

Well on the weekend I answered my own question by setting a new personal fastest lap at a local track during the 7th day on the tires.

Video and details to follow.

I just love personal bests...

Congrats! :beerdrink:

FWIW, I've only tried the NT01s once. They didn't last as long as I had hoped, but mostly due to improper set up and driving like a hoon. They corded but still had plenty of grip.

Best,
