For those running just the breathers...how much oil blow by do you get under the hood. I am going with a procharger in the spring and the air intake is over the driver side valve cover, by the firewall. I just don't know if it would suck up oil, and get the MAF dirty or suck up the oil before it goes in the engine. Breathers just seem like the best way to relieve crank case pressure, especially in FI applications.

With the oil filler breather you'll get very little. I get such a small amount that I only need to wipe it up once every month and even than it's just a little bit on the passenger side head. None on the driver side head or oil filler breather.

Look at my post with pictures of my breathers, its a couple pages back. I ran a hose off of the valve/cam covers to my strut towers and mounted the filters there. This way it wont suck in hot air from the manifolds while its under vacuum. Also, the smooth strut towers are a lot easier to clean than all of the crevices and wires on the valve/cam covers.

I saw how you had them. I just wonder if you get the same benefits of relieving crank case pressure with the extra hose it has to run through. That was my only concern. I'm probably over thinking things.

I bought the steeda unit............considering that I have to cut up the stock piece to get to the quick release connectors to make it work I wish I would have just gotten the home depot version. I am not even sure they gave me enough tubing to mount it too. It looks like I will have to mount it on my jlt cai airbox piece. Is this ok to do?

The steeda directions suck too by the way. This thread has better info.

Is the steeda just a husky unit? can you take a close pic of it.. if they are selling husky seperators for 70 bucks something is wrong...

Hmm $6 + $10 for tubing/fittings, turn around and sell it for $70 that's a nice profit :)

Catch Can Results

Well, I just checked my UPR Oil Separator after the first 1000 miles. I am N/A, and car has 62K miles on the clock. I had 3/8" of oil in the 2" dia. cup. Nasty looking stuff. I haven't had a single puff of blue smoke on start up since I installed it. I'm satisfied it was a good investment.

Cant get a pic right now, but it does look different.

I cut up the stock hose to get the qd;s out and fuck they dont fit the hose that came with the steeda kit. Dont waste your cash on the steeda unit. Just piece it together yourself.

WTF are they thinking sending out a POS like that. I couldnt even use the supplied hardware to mount the bottle. I had to find some new hardware and drill out the mounting plate to make it work. I am gonna call Brenspeed Monday to find out why I am missing parts or what........fuckers!!!!

If you are going to try a different unit, look into the one from UPR. Nice unit. The only thing I had to do differently was to swap out the heater hose they supplied with 5/8" fuel hose.

Where did you find the 5/8 fuel hose?
Napa usually has it, autozone never does for me :(
fuel hose is the best, i wasted my money on some 5/8 transmission line. it slides off every fitting no matter how you clamp it.
bone dry fitting bone dry tranny line and it slides right off. the fuel hose i can probably drag the car by after i put it on the fitting, no need for clamps.

I put mine on Friday; I had one from my 2007 G35 that I never installed since I sold the car and they are all universal. I used 5/8 heater hose and just clamped it on the orfice on the valve cover and the intake. It goes on a lot easier over the orfice vice the fittings.

I will check to see if I have a NAPA near me, Advance/Auto Zone are the popular places around here.

So....after reading through the 7 pages here, is there a reason to not get a breather can while N/A? I'm planning on going FI but want to get a catch can / separator on it soon so I was thinking I'd just get the Jegs dual inlet breather can and port both sides into it and let them breathe. This way I'll be ready once I get the blower.

Any downside with the open breathing on my N/A motor?

I was almost afraid to ask anything on this after seeing some of the flaming wars but I haven't seen a reason to not have a breather on an N/A motor, just people saying not to.
