I know some of you will be dissapointed for me letting this happen, but I have some small spots on my hood and front bumper that are starting to crack and peel.

I live in a condo complex and my assigned spot happens to be underneath a tree where birds love to congregate. I did my best to wash the car, keep wax on it, but it seems the birds won. Even with the car being clean and parked for only a couple hours the hood would be covered.

So, now I have a few small spots where the bird droppings have started to eat through the paint causing it to crack and peel slightly. I will try to upload pics later, but I doubt its something I can correct myself. I really want to get this fixed, but is this something that can be touched up or will the entire hood and bumper need to be painted? I'm concerned with the paint matching since its Tungsten.

You're sure its the birds and not the corrosion thats common on that year? My 05 starts to crack on the top of the hood in a few spots. After stripping the paint it ended up the corrosion ate a hole right through the aluminum! Hopefully its something you can just touch up and live with. If you need it repainted you might be able to get away with just painting the hood if its right over the grille because its not next to a panel. If any of it is next to the fender...you may end up needing to blend the fender too. I don't think you'd need to paint the bumper to match because the only part where the bumper and hood come close to each other are on the posts between the grille and headlights, but thats such a small area and they meet at a 90 degree angle practically so you'd barely if at all notice a color not matching.

Good luck and post pics!

my hood is corroding and peeling for no reason and apparently it was somewhat of a common issue. maybe you're having the same one but I would blame it on the birds to get a new parking spot for sure. Go raise hell.

There's a TSB out about the hoods. You may be able to get it fixed by Ford, but I'm not sure of the details. I do know that they used an acid to prep the aluminum before bonding it to the steel underframe and in some cases it wasn't properly cleaned. The acid residue ended up eating through the hood.
