First off I searched. Either I missed something or searched for the wrong key words. So-I have a set of ceramic coated Mac Shorty headers. They have a couple rusted dings on them. Is there a safe way to remove the rusted spots without damaging the ceramic coating that is intact around them? And is it OK to paint over ceramic coating with a high temp paint or does it negate the purpose of ceramic coating? If it does, Can anyone recommend someone that does ceramic coating?

Thanks in advance.

I'll let the experts answer your questions but there are several members here that are vendors and do coatings. Bobby with S&H Performance and fallenauthority are just 2.

Pics? Its very hard to get a new coat to stick on used headers or previously coated headers. It would be alot of work to redo it. Is it not something you can live with? I've had mac coated headers on my 01 GT and they dont hold up for that long anyway they usually rust under the coating causing it to seperate. You would need to sandblast and remove all coating and all rust if you wanted to try and get a full coverage coat again. If your just looking for something cheap you can do yourself you could sand the rust off and use some vht ceramic paint to clean them up before installing.

I guess I will have to pick up some VHT paint then. I know its may seem trivial, but I put a lot of work into keeping the car looking good, dont want rust spots detracting from it. Thanks Jeremy

For what its worth i used outdoor grill paint for my headers. Temp rating was higher than the vht paint i found to do headers with. About the same price. Got mine from lowes. Still holding strong.

MAC - I feel sorry for you...

I would never buy MAC products ever again.
