Pcv venting

Hello everyone, I'm a new member here (have been a visitor occasionally). I am also a new owner of an 06 mustang gt. My car came with breathers in the pcv bungs and oil filler cap. I want to convert, or integrate the breathers into a catch can/ oil separator system. To help eliminate any fumes and "blow-by". The car is intercooled with a Whipple charger. So I want to make sure it's vented correctly. I have used the search function and read several other posts about this but I am still a little confused about how to properly set this up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The way its set up is how a lot of people do it.

This. Another alternative is to install catch can breathers on both sides so that the breather filter is remotely mounted and you have catch cans to collect crankcase oil vapors, thereby preventing the valve covers from being coated with a film of oil.
The only minor disadvantage of both set ups is that you aren't using intake manifold vacuum to scavenge crankcase vapors, so any contaminants such as moisture may not be eliminated. It's likely you'll need to change the oil more frequently. The major advantage of both set ups is that the intake tract is completely isolated from the crankcase, and that keeps the manifold runners and the intercooler oil free. It also equalizes crankcase pressure on both sides.

If you connect the engine venting system to the intake manifold it will draw oil mist into the engine. Evan with a separator/catch can it will eventually pull mist into the intake manifold. That is why it has been modified in the first place.

Thanks for the suggestions. I definitely prefer keeping the system open, other than the fumes. Would there be anything wrong with running a hose from each valve cove to an oil separator located on the firewall or shock tower. Then another hose from the breather on the separator to some where under the car? Also is there any benefit to running the cfm oil cap breather with the check valve? Thanks again.

E413836C-1799-4E87-9F95-3881DDA98A91.jpeg I run one of these on each side. Catches plenty of oil and water with no residue dripping from filter element. Drivers side just hangs from PCV fitting. That way it’s very easy to empty. Passenger side gets routed next to windshield washer reservoir.

Is your pcv valve still intact and in the valve cover? If it is you only need a catch can on the passenger side. The oil cap breather is optional but it will give your crank case one more outlet. If the pcv valve is still there I would keep the oil cap breather. If it's not I might still keep it but not totally necessary. I would keep it because with the added outlet you won't get as much oil drippage from the other breather(s) as you would if you didn't have it.

I run a 3 breather set up with my Whipple

My car is set up pretty similar to yours 07 boss. Breathers in both covers, with one in the oil fill cap also. I definitely don't Intend to re-install the pcv system. I'm hoping that if I can't eliminate the vapors, I can minimize them. Badd GT, I will give them a call. I'm definitely learning as I go. Thanks everyone for your input.

Found these cool fittings in Summit’s catalog to help reconfigure the crankcase venting system. The black fitting is a simple replacement for the filler cap with AN-10 threads in it. The other fitting is meant to fit in a 1 1/16” hole and provide a AN-12 connection. I removed the factory PCV valve from the left cam caver and enlarged the hole to 1 1/16. The body of the new vent was too large in diameter to fit in the space in the cover so I simply ground it about a quarter inch smaller on a bench grinder. After a little cleanup, it fits quite well and seals with an “O”Ring. An AN-10 to 12 adapter brings the filler cap fitting up to -12 size so both sides are the same and ready for whatever hose or tubing I choose.
