pushpin for radiator cover

Even after reading several posts on how to remove the radiator cover, I managed to break one of the pushpins. The attached pdf shows what they look like. To remove you should push the middle section gently up with a screw driver, then remove by hand. The part number is W705436. One pin is about $5 (outrageous) from Ford and they come in a package of two. W&E Sales Co., Inc sells them in packets of 25, but I don't know for how much.

I've seen the generic ones at PepBoys for about 3 bucks a pair.

Believe it or not there is actually a tool to unlock the center section of those. It looks like a screwdriver with a "V" in the end of it, and it is slightly bent toward the end of the blade. But yea, a small flat blade screw driver works fine.

The parts guy at my dealership gave me a handful for nothing. Good thing because I have had the rad cover off several times and it seems like I can't take it off without losing at least one of those pushpins.

Ditto... they handed me a bunch of different sizes. I've broke a couple on the inner fenderwell liners.

I win some serious weight by removing the radiator cover lol.

It was more because of those pushpin. I had one that didn't want to stay in place, always poping. So i remove everything.

Believe it or not the radiator cover actually does serve a purpose other than covering up a gap between the front of the car and the radiator. It helps direct airflow through the radiator. You might want to monitor your coolant temps to make sure you aren't screwing yourself by not having it on.

I like them too...so do they actually aid the EOM radiator cover in increasing the air pressure in the frontal area of the radiator and therefore increasing flow over the heat-exchanging surface?

BTW, I like your STB too...I have the plenum cover also, and other than the CHE adjustable STB, I was wondering which other STB would fit under the hood and over the plenum cover....

I can't honestly say if they improve the air flow. I bought them because I thought it finished the front of the engine bay. The STB is made by BMR.
