My engine builder was having an Avalanche tuned today after he did heads and a cam in it so we both figured it would be a good opportunity for me to get my car on the dyno with the new engine to check out it's powerband. I kept the boost at what I have been racing with which is 8-11psi of boost (3.5" pulley on my E-force). I was pleasantly surprised that it made roughly 620rwhp and 590rwtq and pulls to 7k without any issue. My last engine dropped off like a rock at 5800rpms so retarding the cams 6* really helped my power band.

Here's a quick vid from my cell phone of the pull to 7k...I love how my car sounds! And that is my fat ass in the driver's seat :roflmao:

Very nice numbers on such low boost! When do you plan on turning it up?

Not until after the race season is over. This engine is sort of a test. It's an iron block which only has 2-bolt mains with the side jack screws so I need it to last me until October. Then I will turn it up for one day at the track to go for some 9 second passes and then my builder and I will drop the oil pan and pull a few main caps to check for any crank walk. If it looks ok then I can try to run a little more power next race season.

My car with me in it is rather heavy considering I have taken stuff out like the a/c, tubular k-member & rad support, air bags, race drivers seat....3940 lbs. Doesn't help that I'm nearly 300lbs so there is a good 60-70lbs that can be dropped if I got my lazy ass to the gym :mad2:

So you locked the cams out?
127300s
I always thought this was a 127550 thing, please explain.

I locked them out for piece of mind back when I had my first engine built and have kept them that way since. I'm sure with stock valve springs and low boost it would be fine to have the VCT in tact but in my mind once the boost and cylinder pressures start getting up there I don't want to take any chances. This engine is 11:1 compression and boosted on top of that so the cylinder pressures can get up there. Using one of the wallace racing calculators on my first built engine which was 9.3:1 comp and at 17psi of boost the pressure the effective engine compression would be 20.04, on this engine at 12psi of boost it's nearly the same at 19.97.

Doing the 6* retard on the cams compared to having them locked out full advance like my last engine really helped shift the power band up. My last engine started dropping off 5800-6000rpms and this one now pulls to 7k.

Thanks for the info.
I am hoping to shift the power up a little higher in the rpm aswell.
I've just never heard of anyone doing it with the 127300's
NICE

Here's the dyno chart from that pull..Something got weird at the torque/hp intersection but everything else on the chart is good.
