Removing the "Knee Bolster"

In the process of replacing the windshield wiper multi-function stalk on my 2008 GT, after detaching the battery Neg. terminal clamp the next step is unscrewing the 2 x 7mm screws fastening the lower instrument panel "Knee Bolster". This is required to access the steering column upper and lower shroud fasteners.

My bolster does not pull away easily & I'm afraid I'll break it. Please advise as to the technique for accomplishing this. Thanks

You have to pull the center console up and remove left black trim from radio. The lower section tucks behind it you can get it out without doing all that but I wouldn't.
