I finally got my new wheels on and went ahead and installed the Saleen grill. I know a lot of people are not too favorable of the Saleen when compared to the Roush because quality of install, etc. I found it quite easy to take off the stock grill once I figured out that there were 2 tabs on each side of the grill, next to the headlights.
Breaking one of em helped as far as getting one side off. Using a small flathead screw driver and placing it in between the tab on the grill and the tab on the bumper and firmly prying got the other 3. Its a bit tricky to do, especially without breaking but it is possible. I only managed to break 1 out of 4. Not bad.
...and the other side.
Once that was off it was fairly straight forward and started to go on real easy...maybe too easy.
Well as I started putting it on the driver's side and middle part when in real easy and the metal clips that came with it was holding fine. Until I started working on the passenger side. That's when the clips on the driver side and passenger side started popping out. Spent some time trying to make it all fit right and stop the clips from popping out but no matter what my attempts would fail. Note that this was only on the side tabs and not the 4 middle ones. Pic from Roush install instructions. Yea, thanks for those instructions Saleen! Pic below of the mounting tabs I speak of.
Finally I said screw it and threw the clips away. Wish I took a picture of it but what I did was take a little RTV and made a beaded line across the Saleen grill tabs to kind of make a ridge for the bumper clips to hook onto. Hard to explain but that acted as "hook" and kept the sides in place and secured.
Now for the gap that a lot people complain about. After installing the grill you can see that it leaves a gap at the bottom of the grill and the bumper. I thought about it and what I did was drill 2 smallish holes through Saleen grill and bumper where the 4 middle tabs meet and use a plastic push pin to secure both the grill to the bumper. The kit came with the metal clips and one plastic pushpin. I have no idea where that one pushpin went but it did come in handy for this. I made sure to place them far enough back just in case I decide to put the stock grill back on one day.
Where I put the plastic push pins:
Before the pushpins:
After the pushpins:
As you can see the 2 pushpins helped big time with the gap.
The finished product:
(before and after)
I just thought I'd share this to help anyone in the future.
