SCT married question

I bought a used SCT tuner, knowing I would have to send it in and have it unlocked, or so I thought. I plugged it in to my Boss and it read the VIN for my car and gave me the option to install custom or strategy tunes. IIRC, my original SCT I had with my Saleen showed it had 3 unlocks. So anyway, since it read my car and offered to tune it and didn't show any errors or anything, does that mean if I buy a tune its ready to go to upload it to my car?

Im not sure, it doesn't say. I just hooked it up to my laptop and under "Device Info" it says "5 unlocks left"

Sounds like you got lucky and it's "used" but never been married to a vehicle, in other words, it's unlocked.

Power it up, go to device info, scroll to bottom, does it say specifically device unmarried there? If it does, then it's unlocked. If it doesn't, prob has a strategy code listed which means it's vin married still and have to send it to SCT to be unlocked which is $150 fee. ( Unlocks left 5 just means it COULD be use on up to potential of 5 vehicles, one at a time, doesn't indicate if it's currently married/locked or not )

And to tune it, program vehicle, strategy tune ( do NOT pick custom tune as you dont want to try and use somebody elses custom tune which is pcm and vehicle specific ) and follow the on screen steps from there like turn key on, turn key off. If it's still vin married, it will tell you to restore the original car back to stock before proceeding.

If married, no, when it will go into the flash, it will say incorrect vehicle.
