so ive got new parts coming, and got my new BAMA tunes. after spending two hours getting my ancient PC to find the tuner, i have it all up and running.

my tuner was part of the "Critical update" batch so i selected the auto updates, and clicked install.

that was 1.5 hours ago. progress bar hasnt moved in awhile. computer is not frozen, i just cant tell if anything is actually happening?

is this normal?

Negative; I just updated mine this week and it took no where near that long. It did take a while though

I updated mine the other day. it took awhile but not that long, i'd say about 30 minutes. something went wrong and it just sat there like your saying. the scanner said "do not unplug" but I have no patience so I unplugged it. I restarted it and it and the download load started back up.

I have a 2011, and the 'newest' firmware upgrade (1.2.155 IIRC) didn't work well with my car. I couldn't datalog (with the handheld or through Livelink).

I had someone from SCT remote-connect on my computer and manually install 1.2.154 and everything works great.

Not sure what year your vehicle is but even the SCT rep who helped me said that the newest update doesn't work well with 2011+ cars and they've had to use the previous version.

I would call SCT...they have been very helpful to me. They can connect remotely to your PC and help you out if you would like.

Makes me scared! I have a xcal2, that needs it, but I'm scared mine will freeze and will have to send the tuner to SCT.

SCT Updater program doesn't support MAC's at all. And if had to update the firmware on the iTSX, it's the same SCT updater program which is PC only.

If it locks up again, another trick sometime that works is deleting the SCT updater program and reinstalling it and also making sure the drivers are up to date. I've found that sometimes works when updating a really old firmware tuner that's a couple years out of date.

Usually it will be about transferring 2600 ish files if looking to do a max update and can take about 30 to 45 mins if that many but no longer then that.

In the end though, calling SCT tech sometimes is the only way occasionally and they just remote into the PC and manually load the files themselves.

I've tried to update my SF3 firmware SEVERAL times, on multiple PCs. Download and install the program/drivers, PC finds the device, go to update, and it just sits there. I've left it for hours, and nothing. I've read a few threads where this happens. Luckily, I've never bricked it by just unplugging it. So I've quit trying to update it. It datalogs, takes new tunes and all that, so I'm just running it like it is.
