Alright, it is time to start building the shortblock finally. Stock 05 block, manley h beams with arp2000, cp -14cc pistons (2618 alloy). Can anyone reccomend a shop in Houston,TX that is familiar with the modular engines. I found one shop willing to build the shortblock, but I don't know much about them other than the fact that Slater's Mustangs outsources engine builds to them. Shop is called Fareman Racing Engines.

Also, I need a ring set. I will be using a centrifugal supercharger. Should the modmax ringset suffice? I want the ductile iron top ring since I plan on moderate boost.

thanks yall.

Only shop I know is Houston Performance, they use to be pretty good and I never heard horror stories like you hear about from a lot of shops in Htown.

Houston performance WAS the shit years ago, then their head tech left to work for Nasa. Ever since then I have used them for parts in a pinch and that's about it. They outsource all engine work. I want an engine shop that is familiar with mod motors, not necesariy a mustang shop. I just need a shortblock built, but I want tq plate bore/hone etc.

G&G Performance Engines did the prep work on mine. No complaints after two years of punishment.

Avoid all of the performance shops for assembly, especially Fastlane. I recommend PSI Motorsports for tuning.

He is a machine shop just builds motors...

Chris@STP (south texas performance) does tunes and they are great if you are wanting a local dyno tune...How ever if you can remote tune with lito I think that would be your best bet...All you need is a wideband and a laptop...Thats where im getting my next 2 tunes from...

Are you N/A or FI

I have done alot of looking around for bad comments on Houston Engine and Balanceing and I have not found any. I spoke with Jeff and they have a few nitrous 3V's running around that they have built. For a redeck, bore and hone and s/b assembly I was quoted around $700. I hope to have my stuff there in 2-3 weeks getting built. Let me know how yours turns out if you take it to them before me.

Yes...and then add $200 on top of that for balancing :) They forget to mention that part. You should be in and out or a little under a grand. I got my pistons, rods, stock crank, block, main bolts, side bolts and rings. I will get the shop to order bearings. I have stock oil pan and stock windage tray...is this fine and is there anything that I am missing?

Also need rod bearings and should upgrade to arp2000 rod bolts if you havent already. Stock oil pan and windage tray are fine, Im going to go with stock pan and Livernois crank scraper. Livernois already balanced my assembly as a kit, but $200 doesnt sound bad at all. Also if you plan on using arp head studs you should bring them to the shop so they can use them in the machine work. Also if you are using used heads it is $110 to have them milled as a pair.

Rod bearings the shop can order. I have arp2000 bolts. Good deal on stock tray/pan. Heads are new :) Only thing I did not consider is having headbolts prior to the work...guess I'll order those first. Thanks!!!
