I've used PB BLaster with great results. Let it "soak in" for a few minutes, warm the engine, hot metal tends to expand, just hope the heads expand more than the plugs, which they should they are softer, plus hot metal is more pliable.

Anyway, do it sooner than later, and use never seize.

I pulled mine this weekend. Very easy task. There was a small amount of carbon buildup on them - so I took a bit of steel wool to them and then a coating of anti-seize. I guess I'll make this part of my yearly oil change routine.

all this talk on sprk plugs has gottem me wondering if i should pull mine. is it really necessary to pull the FI rail? Also since i am NA is there a better plug i could get than the stock?

Thanks:rockband:

No, you don't have to do anything with the fuel rail. As far as other plugs, Brisk and Champion make one piece plugs but not many people are running them that I know of. For a NA motor - I think the stock plugs are ok - you just have to pull them regularly and make sure they don't get gunked up.

I watched the look on my brother's face as he broke the first one removing it from his wife's 05 with like 25K+ miles on it. And then proceeded to have 3 more break

Luckily his buddy had worked on plenty of F150s and already had his system down for removing the wedged in remains....

I think a dealer charging labor for that is BS when its a design issue and you shouldn't be responsible for costs relating to something like that

I have to admit - I was a little freaked out about checking mine. I had read all the stories on several forums about people with as little as 20K miles having broken plugs. I only have 8K miles on my car - so I kept telling myself I would not have any problems. Once the first couple came out I started feeling better - but I have to say there was a nice clean spot on each plug where the carbon had built up and broken free - so the potential for a problem is there for sure.

Pull 'em. The longer you wait the worse it can get.

Tell me about it. I might have seen the damage done to my built engine and saved it in time. Now need a rebuild after 6K on the new block!

Dizzle.. you NEED to check yours now!!! That special trick of our tuner cost someone a new engine and now it maybe two of them if not more. Check yours now!

If you're looking for a good penetrant, PB Blast is great and easy to get at Walmart. I used it to remove a barrel from a 70 year old rifle and letting it soak overnight, the threads were coated all the way down with it.

I'll probably be checking my plugs when I get home and they'll have almost 40k on them. I've got plugs already just in case I break some.

I pulled one last week to just to get a handle on it and see what was going on. It came right out, no problems. But it did have slight buildup forming.

So I hit it with a scotch brite pad and reinstalled it with the copper never seeze (what I had on hand).

I am going to get the nickel stuff and tackle the rest of them soon.

Thanks but Its true.. the good thing is the engine is not totally toast and I can still drive around for a while as long as I dont step on it. The bad news is it will have to be torn down again.

I read your other thread and I have to say that sucks. On the bright side tore down and rebuild is a lot cheaper then a whole new engine. I'm really going to be picky about who tunes my car from now on though.

You do have a point. I'd tow my car somewhere though before going to someone that sucks. After my engine swap I'm taking it to a place in SC near PMP, I've gotten lots of good reviews about that place from people to include Josh and Kevin. It may be worth it to you to go to Adam at ST even if you have to make a long drive.

I pulled/changed mine a few minutes ago. I had 4 that were very tight/squeaky/scary acting and they were worrying the shit out of me. Then I had four that came right out without any noise or resistance.

The squeaky ones I spayed WD-40 in the hole and turned them back/forth a little and let them sit for a while. I went back to them 1/2 hour later and they were easy. My car just turned 20,000 miles.

I have the wifes to do yet. Her's just rolled 24,000 miles. I think the trouble is mediated with a soak of some penetrating oil/spray after the plug is lifted from the seat. Then it can slowly trickle down the threads. I think doing that is what saved my ass. It was sounding scary. I figured I would be ordering heads and cams if one broke.:zipped:
