My youngest son came up from Lafayette, La. a couple of weekends ago. THe last time he was here I took to the local 1/8 mile strip. THis place is very layed back, its one of those if you have the $$ to get in and the $$$ to run your car, the rule is have at it. THe first time I took him I let him make a couple of runs with me in the car and a couple by himself, and he did okay.
This most recent time he pretty much took the car over (like I really minded)
and had his day at the track. Intially he was "sleeping at the tree" and there were a couple of cars he should have beat. I finally got him tuned in on the lights and he started picking up a few wins here and there. His reaction times were surprising, he was consitently cutting .35 - .450 times. Needless to say he is now wanting to build a Fox body that "we" can race.........lol.

HE had a good time and had the opportunity to become schooled in the way of the lights. I had a good time just cause he was doing pretty good.

Yay... another track junkie!! Nice work on raising him right! hehe

By the way, did you mean his RTs were consistently 0.035 - 0.045 (rather than 0.35 - 0.45)? RTs of 0.035 - 0.045 are very good... but 0.35 - 0.45 is pretty late.

Holy shit... how is that even possible? LOL

The biggest mistake I see drag noobs make is waiting to see green before they launch. You're guaranteed to be late then. With very few exceptions, the vast majority of street/strip cars should be launched on the last amber. Minor adjustments can be made once the driver is consistently hitting the last amber. For example, if I'm hitting the tree, but my RTs still seem off, I'll stage a little deeper. Conversely, if leaving on the last bulb is causing me to go red, I stage shallower. What I don't do is alter my timing on the tree.

Haha, I was launching on green right up until they closed the drag strip. Then I found out about MF and started learning about about how to launch from all the guys that are now on this forum, and got deployed and never got to put it into practice.
