Spoiler location - PLEASE HELP

I just bought an 05 V6 and someone had taken the spoiler off. I purchased a spoiler off of a 08 GT and it lines up with the holes perfectly, but I think it's too far back towards the rear of the car. The standoffs are flush with the edge of the trunk and on the underside of the trunk they actually had to cut into the double webbing to get at the back bolts. Can someone please help me with the correct placement of the factory GT style spoiler?

It might help if you post up a couple pics of your issue as the GT and V6 spoiler should utilize the same holes and mounting location. Are you sure the last spoiler installed was a V6 style one from Ford as I thought those were not in production until '07 (I could be mistaken)??

I thought the V6 spoiler was the same as the GT spoiler? I have no clue what the spoiler was that was put on by the previous owner. The previous owner was deployed to Afghanistan and I bought the car from his father. I was left with a trunk with 4 holes and plastic caps. I bought a spoiler off an 08 GT and it fits the holes perfectly. I just think it sits too far back. Basically my question is....Do the spoiler standoffs align flush with the back edge of the trunk? This puts the deepest bow of the spoiler a couple of inches back past the edge of the trunk. I can snap some pictures later this evening when I get home.

I think the person may have done what I did to mine. the car probably did not come with a spoiler then when they put it on later they put it too far back. just a possibility though. I know mine sat back pretty far, not falling off, but farther than my other buddies with v6s and GTs. but yeah, post up some pics.

I went by the dealership after work and looked at a couple of GTs and V6s with this type spoiler. The standoffs are all about an inch and a half from the rear trunk edge. So, I need to move the holes forward about that much. The standoffs will cover the previous holes. Does anyone know if you can buy the gasket material that goes between the spoiler and the car? It looks like most peeled off when the guy took this spoiler off his 08 GT. Some people say to just use 3M double sided tape. I stop at AutoZone and bought a roll. Does everyone think the double sided tape will be sufficient for sealing off the old holes?

Sorry I haven't posted any pics. I got in super late last night. I'll try to snap some shots this evening.

Just make sure you use the automotive grade 3m tape (the adhesive covering strip should be red).

good idea and bad idea. good because it will not move. bad because if you ever decide you want to remove it you will be there for a good while trying to get all that stuff off. Even with the amazing tools that I used. (automotive grade adhesive remover and a shoelace. :roflmao:)

Good point... that is partially why I have not installed a V6 spoiler I picked up a while back as I am still not sure if that is the final look I want (and I already have the "good" tape applied to the spoiler). I am debating just having the holes filled (along with the sat. antenna) when my Foose hood finally make sits way to the shop.

Foose hood on alloy...

and I still have yet to fill my spoiler holes after six months, since I'm still not sure I completely like it. lol.

Well after looking at several factory installed spoilers, I know my spoiler is setting about an inch and a half back too far. I really don't think it's worth drilling new holes just for that. I think I'll just get the spoiler painted this weekend and I believe it will look just fine and then I'll stick the tape to it.

Speaking of the tape. I'm assuming I got the right stuff. I got it at AutoZone and it's not quite as wide as the spoiler mounts. I do remember it being red and the package said it was for applying body accessories to your car.

Hmmm.. that does seem a bit far. Look in your trunk, you can tell if the spoiler was put on my someone else. I had mine put on at the dealership and it looked good on top, but check out where they drilled the holes...

Can you say epic fucking fail???! ^^^ they even provide a space under the trunk to put the screws to so it's easier to remove or change spoilers!!! how do you fuck up that bad and drill through another plate through the trunk before you realize you're fucking up royally?!

Hopefully it goes much better for you though. lol.

Na I got it done there cause he did the job free paint and all since I bought the spoiler new, if I welded his pontoon boat. Which I actually did a god job on... hindsight is always 20/20..

Fail on both counts. lol.
