update: Reinstalled the rubber boot like the instructions said and it is whisper quiet. Also, apparently the rubber boot got caught in the lockout mechanism somehow and was making it harder to engage reverse. Thought it was the heavier duty spring when i first installed the thing, but now it is a lot easier to engage in reverse... DRUUURRRRR
