stock trans?

its an 06gt GT with the 55R trans..... what are they capable of holding as far as power? i have a stroked 5.0 built for 1100, 31 spline moderation out back, 4.10s, GT500 pumps, and wanting to spray a 200 shot..... i make @ 400 RWHP now. so just wanna make sure i dont blow anythin..... also has a trans cooler and a 3400 stall and alumi drive shaft.

in reallity is all in the tune with this transmissions.but if you are at 400 now and going to spray a 200 shot in top of that i dont think that tranny is gonna hold for too long.the torque produced from a 200 shot is gonna kill it.

even with the trans cooler? so i guess i am better off with the 100 maybe 150 shot? i just wanna run 10s for the NMRA event in Nov. my current best is a 12.2 i know there is more in the car but bein stock suspension minus LCA i guess i cant complain to much......

Mechanical failure due to excessive force is not related to a trans cooler
Trust me I've blown the auto in this car already, running that 200 shot will put you on borrowed time. Either your converter will go out, 2nd/3rd gear will disintegrate, or the whole thing will just grenade on you.
150 shot would be about right
if you got a UCA, and a good launch on some DRs you could easily see 10's on a 150 shot
But you'd still be taking it way over the limits of the stock transmission. Make sure you get a REALLY good tune on your shift points, etc.

Also what kind of build are you running to actually have 400 whp N/A?
You go with higher compression etc.?

i went strocked to the 5.0, ported the heads, some big cams, new springs, all the bolt ons minus the throttle body..... built by kutzo racing in S.A. TX. tuned by strickly performance here in Houston. bigger stall, driveshaft, so on, but i still only hit 12.2s..... i feel like i should be in the 11s already with all this......

I really cant afford to blow this trans... (not yet) any other ideas to improve the time? i did LCA, have a Upper but not on yet.... lower radiator support with front sway bar elim.... everything else is mostly stock....

With proper tuning, line pressure, and shift points, a 5R55S can survive a long time. My car runs high 11's & low 12's and I've made dozens and dozens of passes at our two local tracks over the past few years with the blower. Plus, it's a daily driver that is driven hard every day of the week.

That said, the 200 shot of nitrous is going to put a lot of stress on the driveline and may very well spell disaster for your trans. 100 shot might be tolerable, but 200 is asking for trouble, IMO.

From all i keep reading i agree with u..... just sucks cause i wanted to be in the 10s for the NMRA event in houston this Nov. Jim are u guys from JDM gonna be there this year? if so what will u charge me for a tune on this to make sure all is ok. i know i want atleast a 100 shot on this.

I've seen a few auto's in the mid to high 500 range and most of them have had lot of problems. Is there no upgrade kits for these tranny's yet? Or you could always put a turbo 400 or c4 and say good bye to OD.

What brand of converter do you have and what is it set up for?

You completely forgot about the 4R70W!! Considered by most to be the best upgrade for automatic trans that people use on strip/street..

yea i use to live in Portland. moved back here once i got out of the military. i have found TCI has a trans good for 1200 horses. i trap @ 108. if i went down to 15s what size tire should i run i mean a 15x10 but heighth wise im unsure of all this and how it affects me times. i have 4.10s a 3600 stall and the stall i dont remember who made it. i know it cost me ALOT. (another plus i found TCI making the trans.) so let me get this correct and just "verify" everyone agrees a 200 is to much correct? and also i would be some what safe with a 100 shot. oh and just one thing i forgot to mention, i wanna run this on a button no microswitch or zex control unit. so havin said that still a 100 shot right?

ok op yes there are rebuilt kits out there for the 5r55s.now if you really planning on spraying the 200 shot like you said then a 4r70w will be your best bet and it has o/d.if you use the search button you will see that there are a couple of write ups in this forum of how to go about it.
a c4 might not last in this cars since they are so heavy.
