I have a 2013 Mustang GT and my front struts are leaking. I have some questions about struts. The OEM struts I have found are Motorcraft AST-900 Front Strut Assemblies. I went to American Muscle and found some aftermarket struts such as Koni STR.T and Bilstein HD series. My question is does the Motocraft Strut Assembly contain more needed parts than the aftermarket Struts. I guess Strut Assembly versus Strut is making me think if I get the aftermarket one I would need to get some additional parts to go with it. Also the strut assembly looks a lot different with the big spring on it and the aftermarkets don't have that. So can I get the aftermarket ones and that will be the complete strut assembly? Will there be a difference is labor / time in installing the OEM Motorcraft versus aftermarket ones?

Also another question is, I have heard that anytime you replace struts you also should get new strut mounts. Are all strut mounts for my car the same or do I have to get a strut mount that is specific for a certain strut?

No, the Koni STR will bolt right up with zero modification or additional parts needed.

You should also swap the rears to the same brand/model as the front to balance the handling.

This gave me the impression he was looking for a full bolt on assembly.

The only parts between the spindle bolts and the tower bolts are the strut, dust boot, spring, spring isolator (not required), and strut mount.
I wouldn't buy new replacement springs. Reuse them or get new ones better suited for your application.
I went with the GT500 mount which requires 05-10 struts. As long as the struts and strut mounts match you can put them in the coyote cars.
