I would like to replace (square stance) my 255/40/19 with 275/40/19 but I have 3.31 gears. Anyone running 275/40/19 with 3.31 gears notice slower acceleration? Maybe I am over thinking this but a difference in tire diameter of .65" seems like a lot to me

Thanks for your time!

I'm went from 255/45-19s to 275/40-19 running 3.73s and I noticed a difference on the butt dyno.

Rich,

My (Opinion) is since your going up two tire sizes "Taller" there will be a difference in acceleration.

Also you will need an SCT Tuner or other devise to set your RPM (Revs Per Mile) when changing the tire sizes I think.

its a 2.4% difference in effective gear ratio.

effective 3.23 rear gear

I doubt you'd notice

You'll gain an equally small amount of traction from the tire height and width which will probably even things out.
These cars feel so much better with a bit wider wheels and tires. If you have 9.5 inch or wider wheels, do it.

Hmmm, 275s should fit fine on a 9 inch rim right? I went to many different manufacturers websites all said min wheel with 9 inches.

275's will fit on a 9 inch wheel just as the manufacturers state on their websites.. Just keep in mind those are the minimum requirements and not necessarily what are recommended..

Also keep in mind that a 275 tire on a 9" wheel is going to end up being a bit stretched out.. Therefore I'd personally recommend going with a 9.5" wheel over a 9" if you intend on pairing with 275 series tires..

The 9" wheel is okay with a 275 but it will work better on a 9.5.
I went from the stock 18" 235/50 18 BFG's on my turbo car to 275/35 20" on 20x10's and the car went from sketchy to actually being controllable.

All 4 corners. they are a +40mm offset (Late model restorations GT350 replicas).

With +40mm offset on 20x10's should provide enough clearance both front and rear.. You may however need caster camber plates or camber bolts to get back within factory alignment specs though..

Changing wheel sizes should not alter alignment settings unless there is something weak or broken in one of the suspension pivot points.

The offset is almost perfect and a 285 tire would have no troubles in the front and you could get away with a 305 in the back if you wanted.

My mistake, your right..

For a 20x10 wheel.. +40mm offset is what you want for adequate clearance, especially up front.. I run 20x9.5 square with +45mm offset and have plenty of clearance with 275/35/20's.. I was considering 285/30/20's but wanted as much sidewall height as I could get, so I ended up going with the 275's just to be on the safe side..

Almost nine months after original post I pulled the trigger. Took advantage of discount tire direct semi-annual eBay store sale. Bought a set of 275/40-19 BF Goodrich G-FORCE SPORT COMP 2. With a little luck they will be mounted on Saturday - common FedEx!

About a half inch difference in total tire height. Won't make much difference.
