Well i guess thats one way to go if you have the time or desire to search and source down the 8 rib pulleys or just get the Steeda 10rib and you wont have to do no searching and sourcing out. Just a click of a button and your done. To each their own i guess.:thumb2:

really took no more than 15 minutes. rock auto has pictures lol

You are forgetting the cost of the tensioner in there too though, thumprrrr's aren't exactly cheap! roughly $400 shipped for that if i remember right.... although I think I found a discount code to use too... and a 8 rib hd belt was about $40 or so I bet...

It just all adds up!

well I helped develop it so mine cost nothing :p lol

but they can be had in the classifieds as ppl crash and part out the cars, go to the 5.0's ect. so all in all you can do an 8 rib for about half the price of the steeda belt drive system.

IMO the belt drive system is not needed until you hit high boost. at 14psi im holding my belts.

I have a built motor with a Whipple, currently running a 6rib setup and shredding belts @10lbs. I ran a string around all my ribbed pulleys to check alignment and everything seems to be aligned correctly, and when I drive normally, there is no noticeable wear on the belt...only when i get into boost and shift quickly at high rpms.

My guess it is because I still have the stock tensioner. So I need to upgrade, but not sure which one to go with. In the future I will be converting to an 8rib setup and will have a race tune on high boost, so I need a tensioner that is going to hold up to 800rwhp and work with the 8rib also once i get there.

I hear a lot about the Thump Tensioner, but it says it is only good up to 500.

Any feedback from folks with experience in this department would be appreciated. Thanks much.

Also failed to mention, check the power steering pump pulley. They are almost always out of alignment. You need the tensioner no doubt, but check the pulley as well. Get or borrow the Gates Laser Belt Alignment tool. Its the ONLY way to make sure 100% the pulleys are aligned.

Forgot about the Thumprr he's running. Yea, those are a pretty penny.

It really boils down to personal preference and how much money your looking to dish out. I am running high boost so the 10rib was the way to go for me but if i was the one getting an 8rib it for free, i wouldn't complain and take it appreciatively..

most people arent ready to spend aproximately 6k on a blower, another 1200 on a 10 rib system off the bat. I mean if you got the cash go for it.

On my Stroked 302/Whipple 2.3 setup, i run the Steeda dedicated 10rib belt drive. IMO its the best kit out there to run if your aiming for BIG numbers and HIGH boost. No belt slip whatsoever and it cost under what your going to pay for the whole 8rib setup. When i was running just the Whipple on my stock block, i ran the Steeda tensioner and had 0 BELT SLIP at 10psi FWIW.

ummmm /\ there

Where did i say im running 10psi?

I "RAN" 10 psi on my stock block is what the whole sentence says. But the first sentence of that post says on my stroker 302/whipple setup i "RUN" the Steeda 10rib Belt Drive. So yes, i make more than the 10psi you were questioning in your original post to me.

I am not going to run over 13psi for a good while...With the Thump 1002 Tensioner, (which I have already ordered from RDKPerformance) and aligned pulleys...I should be fine.

I will be eventually, for SURE be turning the boost up to 20psi, and when I do, I will be saving 3 tunes on my handheld. A 12psi, 16psi, and 20psi.

I am only going to upgrade my belt setup ONCE. I assumed that an 8rib setup would hold up fine, but if you guys don't think an 8rib setup will work for 20psi, then when I upgrade, I will go straight to a 10 if necessary. What do you guys think I should do???

Since your going to run high boost down the road, IMO, go with the Steeda Belt Drive and be done with it. They have four options for boost levels. 11-13, 13-15,15-17, and 18-20. So you can go with the 11-13 pulley to start and upgrade to the 18-20 pulley down the road.

See that is the exact reason I went w/ the Whipple 10 rib kit as opposed to the Steeda one... They aren't sure of the exact boost level you are going to be running for a given setup. Nothing against the Steeda one (it is a great kit) but if you are considering the Steeda one you should also take a peek at the Whipple one as well...

FWIW I would get a billet idler to the right of the blower. I broke two of them which ruined the belt.

I run 20psi no belt problems. I do see a little slip, but its not because of hte 8 rib. I have to increase tension a little due to the smaller pulley. Love that the KB's have an adjustable idler for that.
