I understand this has been asked in several threads in the past however, I know that the "limit" people have thrown around for our stock block is 500HP but what about torque? What is considered the safety zone?

Last night I got tuned for the 150 shot and made 441 RWHP / 564 RWTQ @ 10.5 A/F, 9 degrees removed.

I understand that there is a risk in this but I'm worried that the 1st pass I make the thing is gonna pop :(

Should I tone it down to a 125 or is this within the "safety zone"?

Those stock rods may not like that torque... but that's just my opinion.

IMHO anytime you go above 425-450 you must be prepared.....

yeah i know you used to be there alot.if i was you ill go to 125 and then concentrate in making the car lighter and suspention bro.itll suck to go out to the track once or twice and blow a window on the block because of 25 hp.

Yep. That's the plan, dropping it down to 125.

It should be mentioned that whp isn't really a good way to talk about the limits of an engine. Funny how everyone goes on about the importance of torque then all discussions of engine limitations default to whp, which is not a measure of force at all.

With 564 lbs-ft of torque I would be worried. That's a shitload of cylinder pressure to achieve that number, and cylinder pressure is what is going to fold the rod like a toothpick. The block is not the issue.

HP Is a function of torque vs. time
Torque is the force applied around the turning point, the time is the revs.
This is an over-simplification, but basically what needs to be known since people keep talking about whp limitations.
And again, it's all in the tune, and with a 10.5 I'd say you're doing alright but toning down to a 125 or even 100 shot wouldn't hurt incase you don't want to do any re-building right away.

Look up a guy named MikeysGT. He's running a 100 shot( he may be up to 125 now, dunno) but he's making gobs of torque, enough to run mid 11's or better on slicks with a few suspension mods.

My motto: Start low, aim high. It's cool to have an 11 second car, but how cool is it if it was only an 11 second car for one pass before it blew up?
