A bit of chatter is a small price to pay for the evil rumble of the cams, however if there was s solution i would get it done.

Both mine and my sons car have the same noise that started after the Hot Rod cam install. Anyone try changing the motor mounts to urethane or solid? That's my plan once I get some cash and time.

I did my install yesterday and and have the same issue. It's funny that I happened across this post. to be honest though, I had some noise before the cam swap (I have a Hurst Shifter) but it got significantly louder after my HR install. I like marcspaz's explination, sounds legit.

i've got the steeda version urethane/solid mounts. it still rattles. and it still rattles with royal purple.

it seems that the only thing that minimizes the noise is to slightly push the shifter handle forward when it's in nuetral and foot off the clutch....just enough to put a little pressure on the linkage. that will make it a little quieter..sometimes...

I have this noise as well. Had it for the last 7k miles and no issues.

I have the same noise with my Mutha thumper and i do just like you, at stop light i put just a little pressure on the shifter and the noise stops....:)

there was too much blah blah blah in this thread to read all the posts, but did anyone change the TOB first?

damn right it's the TOB.. mine does it like a champ.. if you don't like it, hold the third pedal to the floor whenever you dislike it.

turn your idle down to 530 (that's magic there) and see how much that thang knocks..

marcspaz was right. it's not bad fluids or any other thing.

I had the same issue in my 2010, and a couple of customer cars (05-09 gt's) In my opinion, its not the throwout bearing its the input shaft and other tranny gears slopping around. The only true fix would be to set up the preload inside the trans as close to .000 as possible so that the input shaft cant move around when the cams are thumping. Even with that done though, you still might hear noise from the gears being loaded and unloaded while idleing in neutral.

I drove mine for quite some time and had numerous 6500+ clutch drops on slicks without a single issue.

Tremec 3550's, and TKO's make the same noise especially when put behind an a cammed car.

I believe that it isnt hurting a single thing. But I definitely agree that the noise is annoying.

yeah thats along the lines i was thinking. Anyone know how to do this? I have no problem wandering around in my transmission but I dread the down time.

it's not the throw out bearing. this i know for a fact. i recently replaced my slave/tob, and still have the rattle. or if it is the slave/tob, then it's a design flaw inherent with all oem slaves/tobs

You hit the nail right on the head... And the worse shape your pilot bearing is, the worse the noise gets.

It is backlash in the transmission. Put your car in gear and lift it and support with jackstands. Grab the driveshaft and twist it back and forth. It makes the exact same noise if you twist it back and forth.

What do I look like, Bill Nye? :)

I haven't gotten that far yet. I know my 08 did it brand new and my 06 does it really bad after the cams. I was looking into it a bit before the cams, but need to dig deeper.

Many have said that it is inherent to these transmissions. I'm guessing there is a clearance on the main shaft or something that may need "tightened" up and take the clunk out. It won't be anything easy. Push forward on the shifter a bit while at a stoplight or live with it is the only response for now.

What's the fix?

bringing this back from the dead....

since installing the exedy 400 clutch, pressure plate and new slave cylinder, it's come to my attention, or rather the rattle hasn't come to my attention any more.

weird, right?
