I have a ticking sound (very loud) at idle and speeds up with rpm. It also threw a code, P0358. Whenever I unplug the coil connecter it immediately stops, then I plug it back in and after a few seconds it starts up again. So I replaced the coil and still the same thing. I tried unplugging cylinder 8 injector and it also stops immediately. So I replaced the injector and what do you know, still ticking. Does anyone know what this could be? Spark plug, coil connector is bad, injector connector is bad, exhaust leak on the header near cylinder 8?

I have cams, lifters, rockers, headers, x pipe, CAI, forged internals, and most other bolt ons if that helps your diagnosis.

Sounds like something happening during combustion that’s also impacting the coil circuit (P0358).

Prob the easiest thing to check first is if the spark plug is loose. Spark plugs back out on occasion on the 3vs.

Yeah that's not uncommon and it'll make a loud ticking sound similar to a header leak.
If you do find the plug is loose, replace it because it'll have already been damaged by hot combustion gases escaping around it.

Well I just replaced the spark plug. Still ticking. I don’t have a torque wrench so it could still be loose, but I got it good and tight without taking the risk of over tightening it. I’m out of ideas on what it could be

Could the header runner coming from cylinder 8 be cracked?

ticking sound... ( mechanic issue ) and the PO 358 code ( electric issue ) strange thing. You said, when you took off the injector..the sound stopped. So this brings me to the conclusion, that you might have a rod bearing defect. Because when you cut of the combustivel ( gas ) so there is no "load " pressure on the rod...
But the PO358 Code does not go together with this...

I sure hope not. Losing money by the second so that’s not something I can afford right now if that’s the case.

Trying to be optimistic lol. It doesn’t sound as deep of a knock as if it was rod knock, so I’m hoping it’s not. It’s more high pitched almost similar to a very loud injector tick

Since I am an idiot and don't know where to start, I would try to isolate the issue by first swapping coils with another cylinder. If that doesn't cause the issue to move then I would swap the injector with another cylinder. If it still doesn't move then it is time to pull the valve cover and look at the cam/lifters.

When did it start? Did you do any work to the car? Change plugs/coils? Did anything significant precede the noise (like a hard pull)?

It started up randomly the day before yesterday. And I did all kinds of trouble shooting. I replaced the coil, injector, and spark plug and it still ticks (I said that in the og post lol). But hopefully you guys are right and it’s an exhaust leak

I think it was decelerating that cause it, couldn’t be 100% sure. I was coming to a stop light and I always downshift to slow down so I downshifted through the gears and when I got to the light I noticed it. Could have happened before, but that’s when I noticed. I drive for work and it’s a lot of city traffic. So it wasn’t a pull or anything like that. I try not to beat on the car but still like to have fun every once in a while you know

There's a good chance it's a blown header flange gasket on no.8 cylinder. Which headers do you have and what gaskets did you use? How many miles have you done since you installed them?
