So I bought Meguiars NXT tire shine. In the rattle can spray form. I used it after washing the car. I sprayed a single quick spray on each tire (to not over do it). But as soon as I take the car for a spin it flings all the shine off the tires and onto the car. WTF?! The shine is amazing on the tires but it just doesn't seem to stay on? :/ Any of you have this problem?

Cheap tire shine just flings off. To get it to stay, you have to rub it into the tire. I use the Meguiars Gel tire shine (purple) Last and looks good.

I use armor-all extreme tire shine gel, that stuff stays on for 7 days EASY.
I have to apply it by hand but it's worth it.

Thanks for the help fellas. I was F'ing pissed after spending $8 on a tire shine that would stay on. What a rip off. So would it be a good rule of thumb to just stay away from a spray on shine? It seems the 'by hand' shines are better?

In my experience everything that sprays is too watery, any kind of gel is going to perform better and stick just because it's thick gel.

Bottom line, it's just slinging off the excess. If you use a spray on, you need to then use one of the foam applicators to rub the excess off before you drive the car. You can get too much of the gel on, too. You just have to make sure that you just have enough to do the job.

Some products are better than others, but any will sling off in not properly applied.

With that being said. The tire shine gel is really great for off the shelf stuff.

I use black magic aerosol a lot lately on my jeep and it seems to do well without having to rub any off.

Any of the stuff you spray on is usually subject to having excess sling off. Less is more.

Exactly. It doesn't matter what brand you use as much as how you apply it. I owned a detailing business for years and we always used an applicator and I never have any sling onto the cars.

I really liked this stuff from Ardex Labs called "#6223 - Outrageous". It needed to be watered down and wiped on. I used a spray bottle and just wiped off the excess with a rag. The stuff is brilliant, and is still on my tires going on about 5 months now. Unfortunately, they only sell to body shops/dealers/detailers/etc. as far as I know.

But yeah, get a liquid or a gel...and if you spray it on, be sure to let it sit and absorb, then wipe off the excess.

Baby Jesus kills a kitten everytime you use an aresol and blow silicone all over your car. Water based or not, it's not good on the ride. Hell I use even a non silicone based cleaner and I go into the other room to spray it.

you are also supposed to let it sit for awhile before you drive. that should probably be on the directions. Spray on ones tend to be glossier than ones you rub on. But at the same time...you dont want to get overspray on your bling wheels that you just cleaned. Ive had great luck with meguiars or "tire wet" gel that you put on with the foam applicator as stated above.

Part b - $8? Thats nuts man.

^^^ Dude is right. Silicone is bad, um kay.

Even though lately I've been slumming it with the gel (mainly because I've just got so much shit laying around I need to use) it's not the best stuff to use. It has a great shine, but it dries out the rubber and can cause cracking with lots of use.

That's why I use the above stuff. I have even been rookie enough to grab the wrong towel that had some on it. Wiped it right back off and no sweat. Plus it doesn't feel greasy. I love all their stuff.

This stuff is great.

Also, the Optimum Tire gel is very good as well for a water based dressing that won't hurt your rubber.

I've used some of their other products before, can't complain about any of them. I use a lot of Meg's professional line, Blackfire, Chemical Guys, Natty's, etc. I mix it up, lol I have a lot of stuff lying around. I even have a huge Rubbermaid bin that's "shit I'll never use"
