I was suffering from the same question, but after reading this I am pretty sure I want a square set up...looking at a set of 20x9 with a 30mm offset, but I'm not sure how they will look or fit in the wheel well, also planning either 245/40/20 or 255/35/20 to go on them, any opinions or pictures(more so the rear) would help greatly.

since you are 18x9.5 all around... I'd run 275/40/18's on all corners...

This.

I have 9.5" wheels on my car. For a long time, I ran 255's up front and 275's in the back. Recently went to 275's all around and the car handles so much better.

IMHO, if you don't have wheels that show off the staggered look, there's no reason to run different sized tires. You can't tell they're staggered and for me, that's half the reason to have staggered setups is the visibly wider wheel in back. Deeper lip, all that.

well then I stand corrected.
why do the boss 302 and the LS have staggered setups? They are supposed to be NA track cars....

They are "safe" and understeery from the factory for lawyer reasons, I think.

The Boss 302R and 302S are square

It appears to be Ford's preferred approach to ensuring understeer at the limit. Understand that the rear springs on those cars are significantly stiffer than the front springs.

Chevy's 1LE takes a more subtle approach - the tire sizes are "square" at 285/35 but there is an inch of stagger in the wheel widths (10"f/11"r). This is understeerish in that the rear slip angles are still being held down*** relative to the front (barring too much foolishness with that skinny pedal anyway), but it as heavy-handed as reducing ultimate front tire grip.

*** Understeer by definition is the difference between front and rear slip angles, when the front tires experience larger slip angles than the rears.

Love look of staggered but hate the fact that I can't rotate the tires...

The thing I'm hating about staggered is trying to find the same brand/type of tire in different sizes. Really limits your tire choices if you want matching tires.

Why stagger when you can run the big tires upfront too? I run 10.5's on all 4 with 275's. My next setup will be 18x11's with 295/35/15 bfg rivals

Any unusual wear issues from 275+ wide tires on the front?
I think 265's where the widest the s197 ever came with from the factory.
Haven't read anything to suggest any issues but being new to Mustangs I've been curious.
