Tool Rentals

I have been tossing around the idea of offering tool rentals, items that the average individual doesn't need on a regular basis and is cost prohibitive to purchase for a one time use.

I would charge a rental fee to be based on length of time the tool is needed and the cost of the tool.

Tools that come to my mind:

Valve Spring Compressor
Timing Chain Wedge
3v Phaser Locks (used when timing the motor)
Engine Preluber (so you don't start a new motor up dry as seen below)
Eastwood Fender Roller (those with foxes and 94-04 Mustangs need this to keep from cutting wide tires on the inside rear fender lip)

Please let me know if you can think of anything else that you would be interested in renting.

Seriously though, this is a GREAT idea Kevin!

If they weren't so prone to destruction I would suggest a P/S pulley remover. Every time I have rented one it is been so screwed up that it wasn't worth using.

i just rented the p/s pulley remover from autozone. kit was brand new. rental fee was 30 bucks. for that price i might as well keep it

I doubt most people would want to rent it, with the cost of the tool the rental would be a little on the expensive side and then the individual would have to do all the labor. Most would find it a better deal to pay a local shop $200-300 to do the labor for them.

I would probably rent the OTC power steering pulley remover if I were to do it, OTC makes the factory Rotunda tools and tend to be of professional grade quality.

I wish I could get it done for $200-$300.

I'm always in the $500 range and I'm getting tired of it.
Mine is whining again and it was done by ford also.
I don't have the $$$ for a Currie 9" this year.

Mine is only whining in free wheel (with the auto in town, it happen a lot) the rest of the time no. Yves at ostiguy did it. Will see when i put the truetrac what will happen.

Yvon did mine the first time and it was perfect.
The problem is I lose a days work whenever I go out there.
Before I screw with it again I'm going to check the runout and wear pattern myself.
I hate doing gears on a garage floor.

I think that would be an awesome service Kevin, the only problem I could see is if two people needed the same tool at the same time as keeping more then one of some of those tools around would be pricey.

Most of the items I am thinking about wouldn't be huge need tools on a frequent basis so I imgaine conflicts would only rarely happen. If it got to a point where several people needed the same tool at the same time frequently then I'd just buy more.

Still looking for input guys. What tools have you said I really need this for a project but don't want to layout the money to buy something to just end up sitting in your tool box forever after you use it once?
