Is the output flange on the tr3650 (5spd) removeable?

could you change over to a normal slip yoke into the trans, or remove the flange easily if it had too much runout/bent etc to replace it?

i asked liberty transmission this same question and they said it wouldn't work...at least not without a lot of major alterations, such as replacing the tail shaft and stuff. they acted like it wasn't a very promising idea. might not hurt to hit up one of the other transmissions specialists about it though...

also, looking at part number 27 in the exploded diagram, it doesn't appear the tailshaft is splined very far beyond the end of the tranny

i think you're talking about 26? 27 shows the nut even that goes on the end of the shaft that holds the flange on.

nevertheless, maybe he can check with another shop about this idea anyway.

which # is the tailshaft?

The tail shaft is the mainshaft. You can't run a typical slip yoke with this trans in it's current configuration. You'd have to change the whole mainshaft, and who knows if there is a mainshaft that will even work.

The tail shaft/mainshaft is not pictured in the above illistration.

I thought the tr3650 was normally a slip-yoke design and was just slightly modified to run the flange... sounds like it major undertaking... and would certainly be avoided lol

It also, from the diagrams and above conversation, that it would require some serious time, likely trans removal to even replace the flange with a new one.

Appreciate the feedback, lovin this site :)

thanks, bill. i agree with the op...i wish we could get these transmissions with a standard slip yoke. i wanted to do this in order to get one of the local drive shaft shops to build a standard drive shaft type of set up instead of one with a built in slip joint.
