Anything that will kill crabgrass will kill or seriously weaken pretty much everything else as well. IMO you could use a systemic herbicide such as Roundup and apply it with a brush applicator. It would be time consuming but you could wipe it on the crabgrass and not get it on the desirable grass.
I've tried roundup spraying them into the roots/stem. And it doesn't do anything
Roundup is systemic, absorbed through the leaves. The plant cannot absorb it through the roots effectively.
...and a good choice of beer at that.Sure makes it easier to get a beer...
