So I had a trans mount in my cart from Rockauto and decided I would finally order some plugs for my 2004 5.4 F150. 118K on the stock plugs. They had 2 Motorcraft numbers SP546 and SP546X. Was doing some research and found them to be the same plug and only different in the way ford sells them to distributors. But I came across this video on some fake plugs that came from Rockauto. Interesting discussion in the comments. Might be one of a few things that would be better purchased through the dealership.

I’m not seeing any true indicators of those being actual counterfeits vs just being a faulty plug. RockAuto normally is pretty solid, as are big name parts stores. eBay is the place you have to be weary.

SP546 and SP546X are technically different. SP546X is the latest revision but you can find both interchangeably still due to old leftover stock.

I've had good luck with RockAuto personally. eBay or Amazon are a crapshoot. Local parts stores you can easily return things, and you know they're probably legitimate, but you pay for the convenience.

I concur, RA has always been very good, but their stacked shipping (multiple warehouses) and difficult return policies are sometimes the deciding factor for me.

eBay and Amazon... look at seller ratings and inspect the items when they arrive. Counterfeit items are rarely exactly like the originals, so a close inspection usually reveals if you have genuine or fake.

I've always used RA for my plugs, never had any issues with them. I've also returned a few items to RA and found their process very easy.

I used to order direct from Brisk but my last set were Accel and I think I got from CJ pony Parts just because they have a warehouse in my town.

I’ve only replaced mine once in my 07, but I bought Brisk ones from AM…never again will I order anything like that from AM as 8 plugs were in a show how size box with one piece of paper in there rolling around. 2 were out of their boxes and when I called to complain they gave me a $5 credit. I got lucky none of them were damaged
