I've had 275/45/18 M&H that were ok on the highway. Also 275/60/15 drag radials that were the best riding tire the car has ever had. Plenty of fast cars use that size and do well with it. Another plus is that they are one of the best priced drag radials around.

This is just a guess but I'd think that a nice big sidewall would negate most or any issues a stiffer suspension would cause.

That thought has crossed my mind stiffen suspension up and go with a big 15 inch tire. It'll mask the ride.

Just picked up some 315/60/15 hoosier radials. Didnt realize they were 29.7 tall. Im on cj non lowering springs, will these clear fine with out rubbing?

Also how big of a difference does this affect gearing. Currently on 28" tall tires

I think you will be fine. I have the same springs and have plenty of space still running 28 inch tall tires.

What does the OP have for suspension work? Also what is going on with the rear axle?

Shocks made a big diffrence for me and they can be adjusted for street use, and even for cornering. The QA1s have 16 levels of adjustment. 1 being the softest, 6 being a perfect match for stock springs, and 16 feels like you just welded the suspension LOL. but yeah a few clicks and you are back on the street.

Also control arms if they are not done. Those will give you a difference. If you can get the smaller tire to hook you will go faster from having less weight and moment of inertia.
