Oh yeah. When i called and told my dad that i bought a mustang this was his reply...

"Dad i got a new car...i traded the Camaro on a Mustang GT."

"Mustang? That's a Ford. You're gonna get what you deserve. I told you to never buy a Ford."

I love it.

I grew up in a Ford family but came out a Mopar fanboy somehow. However, after I totaled my 400whp SRT-4, I got a little Mitsubishi to get me to work and back but I needed power/torque again and the Mitsu-crappy needed work. My brother-in-law told me he could put me in an 07 GT for about 27K and I would have the new warranty and all the perks so I figured it would be better to go that route instead of dump money into a junker.

Got my 07, haven't looked back, and now the 5.0 bug has bit me hard! Mopars are just too heavy anymore and the mileage sucks on my wife's Daytona. Now I just gotta start moddin' the damn thing, ever since I lost the SRT, my wife has been real touchy about putting money under the hood of a car.

I went to the dealer to pick up an F-250 back in November of '04. Across the lot a saw a black GT with red leather interior.

I took one look at it up close and was driving off the lot about 2 hours later.

I've never seen a car or anything for that matter that instantly hooked me in.

I am now on my second S197, but to tell you the truth, I think the new Challenger completely nailed the retro look that the Mustang and Camaro were going after.

The Mustang is in a close 2nd with the Camaro falling well behind.

I started out in love with maximas/nissans. After my modded maxima was t-boned I traded for an element, but started to hate it soon for its handling, but I didnt expect much as it was great for what it was built for. I then wanted to go back to performance cars, after doing research for many years. While owning the previously mentioned in order to learn about the competition and a future car, I had my heart set on a vette. The c6 seemed like the best performance/cost car, but the headlights only looked good on certain colors, and it was a two seater.

To cut this story down before it gets very long... I wanted a 4 seat convertible that didnt suffer from wheel hop and had great potential and had 4 stars or better on crash tests. Two years later I still think I made the best choice I could have.

but i just still have a soft spot for the 99-04 cars..

Why? And where is this said "soft spot"? In your head? Heh.

A New Edge was my second car, the 02 GT I mentioned. My daily driver is my late Dads 2000 V6 (which is only my 3rd car), which was my first exposure to the New Edge in person. But geezus, no love lost. That prehistoric chassis and everything else. When I get out of the GO (my 4th car) and into the New Edge, the difference is as glaring as getting out of the Edge and into my 72 Torino.

After it was launched in Detroit, I think it was, back in 2003 or so...I knew the new design was for me.

My dad has always been a Ford guy and my mom had always loved chevys, well my dad bought a brand new 95 powerstroke years ago then my mom got a new chevy at the time, it broke, she got a new one, it broke, she got another new one, it broke. So then when I was 15 she got a 96ish z28 .

Wtf? THREE breakdowns and she STILL went back for more?

Man, its almost ALL Chevy guys here. Thats cool weve "captured" them, but wtf? Dont "Ford guys" drive Mustangs? Or get on the net? Or on S197Forum?

I need to amend my story since I didnt spell it out. Despite the various and sundry sucky cars my parents owned, Dad always maintained he was a Ford guy. I grew up hearing stories of his (in)famous, 4 door, 56 Ford Victoria with a stroked? and bored 312 TBird engine fitted with a "hot cam" that whipped up on 409 Chevies and other pretenders to the throne. So that lent to my Ford fandom.

But, given that, I never got why he would buy shit that WASNT a Ford. Just based on what I can remember going back to about 4 years old, he owned as many Chevies as he did Fords, plus the other shit like the Datsun and VW.

I can tell you that I am not a Ford guy, or a Chevy guy, etc... I am just a car guy. I love most of the true American Muscle cars and classic hot rods.

My first car was a 64.5 me and a buddy pulled out of the junk yard and restored. His dad built hot rods for a living, so as a couple of high school teen boys, that was the greatest.

Well, as I got older, I got into the import scene back in the late 80's - early 90's. At one point I had 7 gen 1 RX-7's. They were a mix of road course and drag. The drag cars were mid to low 11 second cars and the road course cars could take a highway clover on ramp an near 100 MPH. The problem was they were missing that V8 thump. I just didn't like what was on the market back then and I just got out of the sport all together.

After switching to off-road racing for about 6 years, the 2005 Mustang had come out and the C6 Corvette was looking pretty sweet too. I originally went to buy a Vette, but I am 6'2", near 400 lbs, and couldn't get out of the damn thing. LOL

The S197 reminded me of the original Mach 1, which I loved. It was the most powerfull Mustang produced to that time. It was a true American Legend. Just seemed like a no-brainer given my history and what was out there at the time.

If I had the money, and a place to park it, this would be my dream car...
