Damn that sucks, I know that stretch of road too, I'll always remember those pics now when I drive there. Sorry for your loss, even with a full cage like that. Street racing is definitely not worth it IMO. I gave it up many years ago.

From what I read on YB, he was testing, lost control at 140, rolled, not wearing belts or possibly helmet.

The main thing people need to remember is a true cage (not a roll bar) actually makes a street car more dangerous when you don't wear a helmet. If he wasn't wearing his belts either then he had no chance at all.

Very sorry for your loss. We all have stories like this unfortunately...

Even a person I know, bought a 2015 GT three weeks ago... Decided to run from the LA PD last week (Lots of 150mph+). They ended up having to track him with the helicopter, he did not wreck or hurt anyone, but that is really stupid... Seems no matter how much we know or try and help. It still happens...

That seems to be a big point on YB.
Once a "Cage" goes in, the car comes off the street, Period. Only driven with full protection, at the track.

Wow. Clearly a violent crash. No disrespect too you friend or his family, but street racing is for fools. Even if it's just you versus yourself, it's a foolhardy thing to do. Young guy.

Sorry for the loss of your friend, man. Did they end up charging the other driver with felonious street racing? Usually they will drop the hammer on the other guy when something like this happens.

He was out on a "test" supposedly so I don't think there was another guy.

A properly padded and installed 6 or 8 point cage with seat belts on would still be safer than any motorcycle with a helmet on. A full cage is a horse of another color.

I'm very sorry for your loss...

Street racing is definitely a bad idea. I know that now, but as a teen I also street raced... didn't take many chances though as it was always on clear and straight 4 lane roads. But the mother of 6 boys that lived next door to me was hit head on and killed as she topped a hill on a narrow two lane road... the cars that hit her were street racing... they lived... and then they had to live with what they had done and I'm sure that was tough for them... because on that day those two street racers caused 6 children to lose their mom and a husband to lose his wife.
Sad story man. Yeah I'm officially done with street racing now. The crazy thing is I just got a bunch of shit for street racing on here the other day & On the news tonight here in Houston the police just started a street racing task force. Because it's so bad in Houston they're cracking down. A mother was just killed from some guys street racing. So between seeing that on the news, this guy dying, all the arguing on this forum & this story you just told. I'm done now I feel like these last couple of days has been all signs for me.

It was very sad, a couple of the boys were my age and we were pretty good friends... losing their mom was very hard on them. One of the street racers broke his back in the crash and never walked again... I knew him, we went to the same high school. He was pretty much airborne when he topped that hill.

glad to hear you're done with street racing and hope you stick with your decision to stop :thumb:

I highly doubt that.

Very sad, but luckily no one else was killed due to poor decision making. Hopefully his family has a solid support

A properly padded and installed 6 or 8 point cage with seat belts on would still be safer than any motorcycle with a helmet on. A full cage is a horse of another color.

A 6 point is not a cage. Its a ROLL BAR. A cage has roof bars that extend the windshield, then down the A pillar, through the dash, to the frame. There is also a bar that goes from the top of one A pillar to the other. A BAR only has the main hoop behind you, then a door bar that goes from about shoulder height on the main hoop to the frame/floor approx at the front of door.

I agree that a roll bar can help. It did with me anyway when I was broadsided by a semi, the roll bar kept the truck from coming into the passenger compartment--instead it pushed the car instead of caving in the car. The difference was I did have roll bar padding, and I was wearing my 5 point belts--so I had no head or back injuries.

^^^you can see the impression on the bar through the door if you look closely.

On the subject of street racing......I did it like everyone else here back in the late 80s and early 90s. I got arrested for racing (fail) and even back then it was a $500 fine and car impounded until the next day. That got me to search out local tracks and start racing at them vs the street. Been racing at the track ever since.

That was my exact thought when I read his post, too.
Three weeks from now he will have forgotten all about saying that.

It wasn't just about just this one story alone. Like I said someone was just killed out here also. The task force is another reason. I have gotten too many signs this past weekend.

Houston is the mecca of street racing. I'm wondering what's going to happen with tx2k this year since the new task force was formed. But to be honest I don't care what you think I'm done.

That really sucks. Prayers to you & his family. The pictures really say it all, no need to go on a street racing soapbox here. I am glad to see that at least one person has chosen to keep it at the track in part due to this, so perhaps the loss is not 100% in vain.
