Well I have weighed my options and decided to keep my stang as nice weather only and keep the eco friendly car for the 50+ mile daily commute. Maybe one day I'll say screw gas prices and buy another mustang to do the daily duty. Thanks for all the responses.

Focus for daily? I think they would make a fantastic long range commuter.

I drove an 04 Mustang GT and 07 GT through Chicago winters since I was 16. Never put snow tires on the car, never put weight in the back, never got stuck once. You have to know that the car will want to kick to the left and right at times, be careful accelerate slowly, give yourself enough time to brake and most importantly worry about other drivers.

Alot of people think that RWD = fail in the snow, not the case. It can be done and unless you have summer tires, there is no need for snow tires.

Need may be a strong word. But, most people do not realize the huge difference, especially on ice, that dedicated winter tires do make.

From my driving experience your not gonna have much luck on ice in any vehicle.

Buddy of mine had to drive his Infinit G35 through a few chicago winters. he did the snow tires and weight routine for a few years before just changing to all seasons. He agreed that the Snow tires did not make any difference vs the all season.

But if you feel safer with snow tires, go ahead. from my own experience they are not necessary, (unless you have summer only tires, then you need new tires lol)

Theres no way in this world im gonna drive a $40,000 mustang in the maryland winters with salt all over the road. Im just dumbfounded when I see these guys driving high performance rwd cars with snow on the ground. Im sorry but thats just not what these cars were made to do. I went to an auction and bought a 4wd Jeep wrangler for the wintertime. Couldnt be happier knowing my baby isint subjected to snow, salt and other dangers of driving in bad weather.

Maybe they can't afford a second car?

My car stays in the garage unless the roads are dry and salt free. Even if I wanted to, there's no way a Mustang is gonna get through a snow storm in western PA. Too many hills.
