.. anyway did you ever make the grille 06Torch? or anyone else fab up their own FR500 grille?

No, I punked out. lol!

I started hogging out the OEM grille and even came up with a sweet way to mount the Pony fogs. I started cutting and soon tired of the slow process. The blade would jam on me constantly. I went out and bought a Dremil bit specifically for cutting plastics and it was worse than the smallish thin seratted blade I was using. Several hours later on many different speeds produced little results. Next, I tried a rough Stanley bastard file. That thing seemed to just slide off the grill with little effect. I set it on my top shelf and stare at it everyday wondering what else I can use.

On a related note; I have a brand new OEM bumper I'd like to install but was looking to throw a "new" grille on before I swapped out the grille for the bumper. So, any ideas on the cutting would be greatly appreciated.

lmfao i was counting on you for a write up! I have a bumper I'm about to get painted and wanted to get a "new" grille to put on it too lol XD. my only idea would be to go all out with a sawzall and then just sand down the mangled mess thats left and repaint it? you could always stop by a shop and ask what they would do if you get desperate. idk.. I might end up just grabbing that one off the link i posted or just driving around without a grille for a bit and hope no giant rock is out to get me.

Don't do either of those ideas. There is little control with a sawall and the car would look unfinished and attract unwanted looks without a grille.

Another idea I had was to use a set of snips plumbers use to cut pvc pipes. I was surprised to see how well they cut through 1 inch diameter pipe. It's a ratcheting mechanism. Control is bad ass and the cut is almost lazer like. lol! I'll try this on the weekend and should have some pics of my progress.

Still hoping the dude with the mesh from Lowes chimes in...

hm.. keep me updated on how the snips work out over the weekend. How are you planning to mount the chicken wire in the event that the snips are effective and get the job done?

Well, I decided to give the Dremil one last try. I took it up a bit more on the speed and held it a lot "firmer" and it's a whole lot better. Before it seemed to want to jump from the piece and now it's really digging in. I used the "snips" but their size limits what and where you can use them on.

I'm almost done with one side and while it doesn't look pretty, I think the mesh I may end up using will conceal a whole lot of the imperfections. Once I have one side done I'll post pics on the progress.

It's proven to be a lot of work and I would not really recommend it. I still have no clue what it's going to look like. I bought the OEM grill w/fogs for $20 and already own a Dremil tool. So, it really isn't a big loss of $$$ if it ends up looking like ass.

Keep us posted with updates and pics. I have a brand new stock grille hanging in the shop that would be a perfect candidate to do this too. Been getting kinda board with the 9-bar.

Will do. I have some tomorrow.

Just out of curiousity; what are you looking to get for said 9 bar?

All sorts of mesh here. Just order a custom cut in the size you need.

Just be sure to use the 304 stainless steel or the aluminum alloy one otherwise, galvanized will rust eventually!

The stuff they have at home depot, lowes, etc. is galvanized....

I went on that link and their prices are pretty reasonable. I was quoted $62.xx for a 48"x12" piece of the crinkled "Shelby" mesh. I've had computer issues lately so I haven't been able to post the pics I keep promising. My laptop can not access the internet and the PC has a virus. Damn online porn... LOL!

I am still patiently waiting:hi: I have this idea in my head to cut out everything from the center of the stock grille except for the foglight rings, and mount an older style mustang eblem with surround, and the bars extending from it onto the mesh metal stuff(mesh painted black of corse). Looks good in my head but we shall see, lol. Idealy I'd like to cut out everything, mount the wire, and put the chrome pieces and fog lights from a pony package sixxer on it. Those grilles are too hard to find, and too expensive when you do

I'll be dissecting my FR500S grille soon I think, I'm replacing the stainless mesh and steel frame/block plates with aluminum sheet and wire cloth to lighten the mofo up..I'll try and remember to get pictures.
