Is getting dicked over by shitty people on here pervasive enough to keep people from using and trusting our classifieds section? I think the answer is a resounding NO. Ideally, no one gets screwed, but that's almost impossible. I think the screwed-over-to-painless-transaction ratio is pretty low here, and most people trust the other person with whom they're dealing.

If people completely want to do away with the possibility of getting screwed over, they should buy the part new and at full price from a reputable dealer. Same thing with buying a used private party car. Sure you get it much cheaper, but you run the risk of buying someone else's problems.

Closing the classifieds will no doubt result in over half the forum members leaving. Less 'willing to spend money on parts' traffic = less sponsors. Also, the flow of parts clue people in on which brands are popular, thus, those brands will want to sponsor the site. I was taught this in my basic internet business class. If I buy or sell something that is more than $100 in value, I usually make sure that person is real first, using facebook or a telephone.

Hawg, nothing needs to change.

It is what it is: a place to sell or purchase stuff.

If you are getting in the middle of buyer and sellers problems it is your mistake.

I suggest you divorce yourself from the problems with a reference to the disclaimer made for the section.

"I pm'd first and didn't get to buy it" is a ridiculous complaint. As a seller it is your right to sell your shit or not. Bottom line.

It would suck to see the classifieds go bye bye...but I totally agree with GIG these are problems that can't be solved. People are always going to fuck other people over.

I don't agree with that above statement at all; there are ways of handling a loweballer but when someone PM's me and says I will take it, what is your paypal address I consider that a deal.

The ironic thing is everyone who has posted in here in not the problem...the 1% of the assholes are the ones ruining for the rest of us.

Everyone is quick to say the Trader rating....but...in the case of hoovsgt/alter ego a negative rating can't be left because alter ego never got a chance to complete the transaction because hoovsgt sold it to someone else...so if hybusapowered gets the shifter he has every right to leave postive feedback for hoovs because he got what he paid for...

Yeah true. I understand asking questions about the product but gay ass tire kickers are the worst, which in turn wastes yours and their time, especially if they know you're not buying. But by the same token, a lot of the time asking questions could be saved by giving a good description, price, location, paypal options, shipping fees, and real time dates of getting their product out the door once it's sold.

But yeah, first guy to say, give me your paypal addy gets it. Unless I told them I'd hold it for them until whatever date. And as a seller, I do adhere to that date and if 5 oclock comes on that date and I have no response or money, it's back up for sale.

I'd hate to see it go away as well. The problem is trying to regulate people's personal ethics. I have always stood behind my word in every transaction and always will.

Just a few weeks ago I sold a Predator programmer that came with my Vortech kit. I was told it could be programmed as with any hand held and I sold it as such. Come to find out the purchaser could not program it so I asked him to return it and I promptly refunded his money. It would have been easy to make up a story and scam the guy, but what would be the purpose. We're all here to help each other out.

Everyone has a different idea of what's ethical or not, and it appears that threshold seems to be dropping lately. I've received parts that have been described as excellent that were far from. I've made commitments on deals that the seller backed out on, only to relist for more money a week later.

Was I upset about the TCI? Sure I was. I'm sure anyone else in my position would have been as well. I understand that honest mistakes happen, and I'm one that doesn't get to worked up over stuff. But when you see a trend of where things are going, enough is enough.

It's a two way street as well. There are some potential buyers that will ask you two million questions, waste a bunch of your time, and then you never hear from again. Or they will lowball the piss out of you, you finally accept their offer, and you never hear back from them either.

As has been mentioned already. The acts of a few usually ruin if for the majority. We are all on this site to work together. I'm very thankful for some of the members that have offered me invaluable insight, as well as the deals I have been able to procure due to the classifieds section.

I've bought a few items from people on this forum and had really painless transactions, quick response to PM's, shipped on time, etc. What really helps is just using common sense. Check not only how many posts the seller has, but also the content of their posts. See if they actually contribute to the site or if they just came, made a few bs posts and started hawking a ton of parts.

I totally agree with this statement. It's always buyer/ seller beware it's the internet for crying out load the #1 place to screw somebody from credit fraud to Child porn the internet is the world of the evil doers no face to face contact hell you don't even have to speak to each other a post here a post there and a sale happens. Any idea how many home invasions happen linked to items on the internet? It's amazing. Hawg in a perfect world this should be the community you invisioned it to be when it all started. Unfortunately this World ain't perfect and shit happens. I've been dicked out of deals on this site but never brought to your attention cause I knew that was the odds. Win some lose some. My 2 cents

I think if the intent is to protect everyone then something like having someone one set up with a Forum paypal account to act as the 3rd party would maybe work. Seller posts item, then buyer sends money to forum PP account & section mod notifies seller to send part. Buyer gets part and lets section mod know who then sends money to seller. Buyer has issue with part (i.e. wrong part or something is missing) and contacts seller and mod. Seller makes it right and gets his money or can't make it right, then buyer sends part back to seller. Seller gets part back and lets mod know, mod sends buyer back his money.
It could work but it would be labor intensive for who ever is in charge of classified. Maybe this setup would be optional and if used 3rd party gets paid 1% for his effort. Or we just leave it as is and its buyer and seller beware.

I would be sad to see this section to go as well. I've been a member for almost a year but yet have under 10 posts. I joined because of this section, and now that I have money save up for modding I've paid more attention to the site. I am usually over at IMBOC but their F/S section isn't nearly as good as this one.

Yea, i'm pretty familiar with where the STICKY for the forum is. I believe I quoted it earlier. And I probably needed to know where it was in order to quote it. But thanks for pointing it out again just in case I was mistaken and quoted something different and unrelated.

Okay. Sounds like the problem is solved. Everyone here seems to think that everything needs to remain the way that it is, including one of our moderators. So, I guess that means nothing will change. Therefore, I do not have any further intention of responding to any PMs, iTrader ratings, or emails that are in reference to bad classified transactions. Don't PM me, don't email me, don't call me, don't IM me on Yahoo, don't IM me on GoogleTalk. I won't respond.

Dave, I recommend you take the same stance. It is quite obvious that our care and concern is a wasted effort. Next time Joe Blow emails or PMs you and says he paid twatwaffle for a supercharger and no one has heard from the guy since and it has been 3 months since he paid... fuck it. Just ignore the email/PM

This is exactly what I have done and all of my transactions have been successful. Over half the mods on my car are from this forum and it has saved me over half the retail price.

Hawgman I(guess I speak for myself) take pride in my moderators showing concern for my well being but as a human being understand that there is very little you or any other mod could do for me if I were to have a deal go bad. I think there were some good suggestions ie. post/time limit, this is the only forum I am on that does not have this requirement for posting something for sale.
