Green Bullitt,

Maybe people can take something out of this unfortunate experience.

Make sure whoever you are purchasing from knows something about what they are selling. The cam caps had been pulled prior to me getting the heads so someone knew it was bad. HOLYWD said in a previous post he bought it from Dallas Mustang so I'm sure they knew they were bad.

I wonder how the guy who bought the shortblock these came off of faired?

I have had my fair shows of unfortunate expierences as far as motors and motor building goes. It's always a headache. If he bought them from a mustang shop, im sure they knew they were bad, if not then might want to stay away from that place.

Im not sure on the shortblock. I just stumbled upon this thread and was skipping through it. I have fallen behind lately due to my lack on activity on the site and being busy with work. I trust Caleb (HOLYWD), and I'm sure he meant no harm, no tried to screw ya. Im sure he was unaware of there condition or how they are supposed to look.

Wow, this has been a long and tiring thread. I had to stick around to see how it would end though. Kuro gone. . . . .thank God. For now, I think we are out of trolls. Someone will be along shortly to take his place though.

Going back to the very first post. It appears that Bruce and Caleb came to an agreement to resolve the issue. Reading through the lines, it doesn't appear to me that Bruce was very satisfied with the resolution. This thread would have never existed if Caleb would have just said "Bruce, I'm sorry the heads were not as described. Send them back to me and I will refund your money and all of your expenses". In my opinion, that would have been the right thing to do. I like profit as much as anyone and profit is not a sin. I try and live by the rule, "do what's right even if it isn't the easist solution". I will say that Caleb and I recently had a transaction that went smooth as silk. I think that Caleb is a standup guy and did not intentionaly sell Bruce a bad part. However, I do believe it could have been resolved differently. It's unfortunate that it ended with bad blood between them.

I'm not looking to cause any issues, just was checking it out. I see that it has been resolved. Caleb is a friend of mine and a good guy and he didnt mean any harm. Just didn't know what he had when he sold it.

Carry on....

so, uh, what should serviceable journals and caps look like?

obviously, those were beat to the ragged edge, but say there's some very minor pitting that appears to be a casting defect? or lets say there is some very light scouring? is there a quantifiable way to determine serviceability?

The written rule is if you can feel it with your fingernail, it is toast and should be re-machined or scrapped.

I'm not trying to take sides on this on this but I have a couple of things to say. First, Hollywd if I get another mustang and you have parts for sell that I like I will gladly buy them. As long as you don't start selling them for more than, lets keep it Texas, LRS is selling the same product for.

Second, you do not ever insult a soldier no matter what. They see and deal with things that we can't even fully imagine. I've seen the way war has affected my mom(lieutenant colonel 30 years), my dad(sergeant major), my great uncle(staff sergeant), and my grandfather(major 20 years) and they have to deal with it everyday. It really irritates me when kids can't respect what soldiers go through and do for our country, and I live next to the largest military base in this country(Fort Hood), even when their own parents are serving our country. If you don't support our troops you can gladly stand in front of them and get your brains blown out by both our soldiers and our enemies

Well, I suspect UltraKla$$ic wil come in and provide a "Cliff Notes" using almost nothing but smilies.

In the meantime:

Hyllwd sells BruceH a set of fully dressed heads that Hyllwd had removed from a longblock he had got from Dallas Mustang Parts. Said heads cam journals were toast. Bruce PMs Hwood about resolution. Hwood provides resolution with the caveat to "Hold on till next week" (meaning this week now). BruceH was not pleased and felt he was being sandbagged and possibly set up for a rip off. BruceH posts thread here seeking confirmation that said journals are toast, forcing some quicker action. Agreed resolution is provided, both parties are more or less (more less than more) satisfied.

Another member points out a similar "bad deal" from Hwood. Kuro chimes in pointing out "less than scrupulous" sales/profit tactics on the behalf of Hwood.

A particular thread showing possible proof of Hwood dicking over a member for extra profit is "mysteriously" deleted.

Sides are taken. Some (including some otherwise haters of Kuro) take his side on the "shittiness" of profiting from fellow members esp on free parts acquired.

Kuro and clan voice the idea that Hwood should have to pay vendor fees given the volume of parts he sells.

Hwoods clan says, "Thats ridiculous" and that hes simply practicing "Capitalism 101".

Kuros clan proffers the concept that Hwood should NOT be a moderator if hes the one using the Classifieds the most.

More shots fired from both sides, with Kuro posting a "Boom Headshot" meme whenever any fires one from his side.

VTXFrank comments and rips Kuro in a fashion only Tom can.

Kuro fires back with an insulting cut about Toms war injury.

S197GT drops the ban hammer on Kuro.

The End.

Just had a few ideas on how to salvage this type of damage. The best one is to mill both the towers and caps, then rehone to proper dimension. Probably not cost effective for this application but it would be for a set of already ported ones.

That's how they are repaired. It's not a new idea, just "the way."

Since the heads themselves seem to be okay with most of the damage on the caps, you could either do what you've mentioned (somewhat costly, and wouldn't work on the front cap because of the it's function), or try to get some caps from another set of non-repairable heads and have them checked/honed for roundness (<--word or not, I'm using it).

Or, simply find another set of good used heads.

Forgot about the oil metering groove. Is there any other reason it wouldn't work. I'm guessing the big round groove is just to capture the cam.

i posted regarding this early in the thread, but i didn't mention specifics. there are shops that will do this work, i was quoted $300 total to repair both heads.

if a person can find a set of heads locally that don't need this type of machine work, you're obviously better off starting with those.

A mod should move this to the start of this thread hahahahahahahaha. I just finished reading everypost and this sums it up perfectly.

Ill add my two cents before the thread is locked.

HOLYWD, so he comes to an agreement with someone for some parts before anyone else, gets them for free, decides its not the route he wants to go and sells them. I have no problem with that. I gave a friend of mine an Old TV. 36" TV great condition great picture. gave it to him for free as I had no use for it anymore(40" flat screen! boo ya!) anyways he had it for about 2 months and sold it. Do I care, nope why it was not my TV anymore, once it changes hands from one party to another its not your deal anymore end of story.

To the other people about possible shady details I have nothing to look at other then both parties comments, so I have no comment.

Kuro crossed the line. How he had the balls to even say something like disgusts me. making a comment about a persons injury is bad enough, but when its about one of our soldiers, that is a whole new level of wrong.
