Im sure they will do right by you. That is a lot of oil in that seperator, I dont see that much in 1000 miles or more.

Good luck man. Sorry this is happening!

Not that it matters now but I would have removed the JLT catch can before it went in.. Don't need to give them any excuse not to cover it under warranty.. Ill bet they will try to say that why your have an oil consumption issue and you now ruined the engine because of this aftermarket product.. But I hope not..

What oil seperator??? Lol besides ford has recommended it to some people who have oil consumption.

I would love for a service "tech" to tell me my oil separator caused an engine failure. I would eat that reject alive.

And jewc, how did all this start? Was it a slow progression or did you just wake up and all the symptoms were there? IE, the stammering startups and smoking?

Hell my car the other day when I was at the grocery store when I started it up it was stuttering a bit. Turned it off and restarted it was fine. Hasn't done it since. I attributed that to just jumping in and turning the key quickly. /shrug

Here we go again, me laying awake at night thinking a gnome is stealing my #8 piston. :( :dead2:

Don't you think you're making a mighty big assumption there? It's clear he has a problem, but not a shred of evidence as to what cylinder it is at this time.

No, I don't think it's a big assumption. This has happened multiple times already on different cars, and it has invariably been the #8 cylinder.

I'll try that at lunch. Whenever I start my car I always let the fuel pump prime itself before starting it.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking it was. I mean, the needles didn't even get to do a sweep... I was in a hurry... :chairfall:

I have a feeling they'll replace your whole engine. I think Ford will want yours back for examination. So far it seems everyone is playing nice on both sides, hopefully that continues until the problem is resolved and you're as happy as can be considering.

No way that would fly. Ford will be involve in this every step of the way.

you don't think they would let him upgrade to a Boss short block if he were willing to come out of pocket for the difference?

I don't personally think they would, but Ford surprises me from time to time. It's a possibility I guess, for the Boss motor, but not an aluminator. I still think they'd have a hard time offering warranty on a vehicle with an engine that's technically not the correct one.

Hmm,I don't have a price on a standard GT short block, but from my memory most of the price in the Boss motor comes from the heads.

Yea, if mine were to take a dump I would probably just pull it myself. Get a boss 302 SB, then have an engine builder take the heads and cams off the old and put on new. Probably put me out of pocket around 3k mark but it would be worth it.

Retail pricing:

5.0L GT shortblock: $4,510
Boss shortblock: $6,492

5.0L GT longblock: $6,633
Boss longblock: $12,415

There's a considerable difference there. Ford will want to replace the whole motor not knowing where the oil consumption is coming from, so if the customer had the option, and wanted to upgrade, the Boss longblock, it would be a nearly $6,000 cost to the customer.

Yep, from a long block stand point yes. If it was just a short block replacement it is not that much of a gap. I wonder what the cost difference is from just a piston, rods, crank perspective :D

It's very similar. The Boss rods are actually cheaper than the GT rods, but the Boss pistons are double, and the crank is slightly more.
