What about switching to a 5W-30 oil? Another thing, switch back to conventional dino oil and take it out on a stretch of road and do 10 roll ons WOT from 30-60mph letting the engine brake the car down each time. Do this a couple times and then go back to synthetic.

Try both suggestions and see if it helps.

Solid advice here.

+1 on the oil 5w-30, also last summer there were 2 5.0's that seized up because of low oil. The OP's had checked oil level, drove about 3000 miles when they seized. So the burning oil thing in not new. Ford did warranty those motors. It is very odd, the different experiences people are having with these motors.

I like to use 7 quarts of 5w20 as recommended by Ford.

To top her up to 8 quarts I add one quart of spunk that I produce over the 5,000 miles between oil changes. I feel that this really makes the car and I become "one".

Apparently the dealer and whoever at ford are the only ones who think this is normal. Another dealer said its not normal and will be digging into this more. Should get interesting.

If the Ford service rep is saying its normal, then the other dealer isnt going to tell them any different. If the dealers are close by, they probably have the same Ford service rep..

The rep said he didn't think it was normal but that the info they were given from the ford tech line was what they had to go off of. He did tell me to go get another dealerships opinion and if it differed they'd go from there.

I'm not following Ford's logic. You bought the car and up till 4k miles it didn't smoke. Apparently the rings were seating properly. Now for no apparent reason they have begun to unseat? I'm very interested in Ford's 10k miracle.

jewc75, Have you gone out and tried to break it in some more? As previously mentioned conventional oil will allow the cylinder rings and walls to wear in better although that ship has probably sailed by now it's still worth a try.

Has the consumption changed at all?
