Heard this rumored about the pits at the last FFW in Dallas. Just read it on NMRA Digital.

Look like no more Fun Ford.

(Copied from NMRA DIGITAL)

Looks like NMRA is the only all Ford show now....Here is a post off the website.

American Autosports Productions, Inc., the Producers of Fun Ford Weekend, proudly presents the Battle Of The Brands 2009! Battle Of The Brands is brought to you by Bill Alexander and the same familiar staff of the Fun Ford Weekend series.
Battle Of The Brands 2009 will be a national touring series, visiting major venues you've grown accustom to and some new ones too! Battle Of The Brands will be featuring the all new Outlaw 10.5 and True 10.5 classes, along with the same familiar Bracket and Index classes brought to you by FFW. Battle Of The Brands competition is for all Ford, GM and Mopar, no import type vehicles allowed.

Each Battle Of The Brands event will feature power packed drag racing, massive Manufacturer's Midway, Swap Meet, Car Corral and an All Brand Car Show Spectacular!

American Autosports Productions, Inc. will also be introducing a new website; www.BattleOfTheBrandsRace.com which will work in conjunction with our current website. All contact information will remain the same. American Autosports Productions, Inc. is looking forward to these exciting changes and will continue to produce a national event series that is first class and one to set standards by in the industry. Feel free to contact us with any questions you might have at 225 664 0996 or [email protected].

Sorry if this is old news. I only went to 2 FFW events. I normally go to NMRA.

I understand from several people that something had to be done as attendance was way down. I guess when they started trying it with the outlaw cars they had a much better car count.

Not sure which magazine will follow it now? Maybe they'll have something like NMRA's race pages?

That's the way the FFW event in California has been the past few years. It was open to anyone, not just Fords. So, it's no real change for us.

And unless they hire a new group of people to run it, the attendance won't change much, IMO. That event has to be the worst run race I have ever attended. Even our local tracks are way more organized than this group.

Maybe I'll look closer at the PSCA for 2009... the NMRA is a nonfactor in the West.

PSCA for me. With the bogarts I should be able to run consistent 10.60s and will be in the 10.60 class.

I had heard they were doing the battle of the brands in some locations already just didn't know where.

The NMRA is a haul for me but since I crew on a SSO team in the NMRA I'm gonna be at the events anyway. Probably won't run my car at any of them accept Bradenton. It's hard to run two cars with one crew.

There have been a few small races poping up around here. Maximum Impact and such. However, the Clobberthon has shutdown so I guess we lost a couple and gained a couple.

Well fuck me gently with a chainsaw! I guess I attended my first and last FFW last weekend. Oh well, I am sure they will find something for TX Motorplex, I just hope like hell they do it in October and not earlier. It is just too fucking hot here to enjoy anything during June, July, August, and September. I am jumping for joy now that a cold front just arrived and they said it will be 38°F here Tuesday morning. I am going to drive Bluebonnet. She will love that cold air!

Not meaning to change the subject but I have a question for the West Coast guys. Would you be interested in running a "Late Model EFI" - type class if I could get it done at the West Coast Hot Rods Association? This would be similar to the NMCA's class which features '96 and up mod motor Fords, '95 (or so) and up GM LS-engine cars, and the new Hemi cars. Same type of Open Comp rules with the 1/10 deduction off your best qualifier as your index, a 5/10ths Pro Tree, and somewhere around $500 to win with a $100 entry fee.

My sponsor happens to be one of the four owners of WCHRA and I might be able to get it to fly IF there is enough interest. Since I'm not out on the west coast that often I don't know if there is enough interest from the GM and Mopar camps to pull it off. I'm sure there would be a ton of Mustangs show up. What do you guys think?

Ultra Stang is not going anywhere. Class will still be there, and will still be Only S197 fords!

Plus 1k to win is best purse to run for!

I like NMRA, BUT FUCK, can you open up the wallet some. 400 to win in truck and 500 inSuperstang, only 600 in COMP. FFW paid 2k in Comp 1k in US and 1k in trucks.

I need to check on what other classes they have. I'm not a fan of index classes like that one. The cars that win in those usually have some sort of delay box (if they are legal) and can dial in tothat number pretty easily. Without a box, you really need a car that is faster than the index, and then be good on the tree and be able to drive at the stripe better than the other guy.

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of the -1/10 dial in method, nor of the pro tree. The idea of holding something back during qualifying goes against my natural urge to run it out the back door. It's bad enough that I have to hit the brakes in eliminations... I sure don't want to slow down in qualifying, too. And I have much more experience (in fact virtually all of it) on a 3-amber tree. I much prefer the sportsman tree and a set-your-own-dial-in format of a typical bracket race.

What tracks does the WCHRA run at? I'm sure I could make trips to ones near San Diego, but the farther away they get, the less likely I'd be to go.

Not a points race, thats why.
Not exactly. U/S was there on Fri and Sat for qualifying, then on Sunday morning they told us they were combining it with Mod Comp. Pretty lame if you ask me...

As for the 1/10 breakout, add 100lbs of weight and run, take out the weight for elims!
Not a good answer for me. Why would I want to add weight? I spent money trying to get rid of weight. I want to try for the best ET that I can in qualifying... period. Like I said, intentionally slowing my car down is soooo not right. haha

I think it's great they are doing this. For awhile now, the S197 has been the only 'new' car to really hit the sport hard. I really believe with more challengers and camaros hitting the streets, drag racing in general is going to get revitalized.

I think having an EFI racing series s SD suggest is the way to go and will being out the numbers IMO.

Some people just aren't cut out for index racing. Don is from the old "bury your foot in the firewall" gang.

NMCA has the Late Model EFI class but they run it on set indexes. 9.50, 10.00, 10.50, 11.00, 11.50, 12.00.....etc, etc. To me that kind of sucks. Plus, they don't pay shit for that class.

I do like how Jim set up the Super Stang class at NMRA. Run the car flat out and pick your own index number Sunday morning. Whatever number you put on the car is what you have to contend with all day. The only problem I have with Super Stang is the random first round pairing then laddering the cars in the second round based on closest to the index in the first round. That makes no fuckin' sense at all. Just ladder the damn class based on best reaction time during qualifying. Seems pretty simple to me.
