Would a K&N panel filter an offroad h-pipe and straight thru mufflers cause a lean condition without a tune?

IMO, You need to tune your ride with an offroad or catless exhaust. the O2's are most likely throwing your computer off.

the rear O2's don't affect driveability at all... All they are there for is to report to the ECU if the converters are present and working correctly... The K&N drop in filter won't change much because you aren't affecting the diameter of the MAF housing... You should be fine with a drop in K&N and an off road exhaust as your only mods... you will get a code for the cats being missing unless you get the MIL eliminators or use the non-fouler trick

See my post on catless H pipes. Although it is not real common, my car had severe knock when I went catless on an otherwise bone stock engine (not even a CAI). I datalogged in LiveLink and off my wideband, and the H pipe was absolutely the problem. When I put my stocker back in, the problem went away.

As I said, most people have not had this problem. But a reputable tuner told me that he is seeing it more and more, especially on 08's and 09's for some reason.

The moral of the story is that there is a chance the mods you mentioned will cause a lean condition. It did on my car. Get it tuned after the mods and you will be ok.

exactly why i said 'should" be fine... my friends 08 has an off road X and pypes mid pipes and a drop in K&N and it reads perfectly fine on the wideband... if you have a hint of a problem of course get a tune but it probably won't be necessary

Thank you for all your replies. It runs good now the CEL is on but that is because the rear 02s are not urned off. I think i will try it.

you can go down to napa and buy two sets of spark plug non-foulers and drill one and stack the other(do this on both sides)... it will keep the CEL from showing up when you clear it...

or you can buy the CEL eliminators

all it does it pull the O2 sensor out of the exhaust flow and only lets a very small amount of exaust gas get to it through the tiny hole in the non fouler you didn't drill(you have to drill one for the O2 sensor to fit in it the screw it into the second one, thats why you need 4(two sets))... its just and old trick(I'm not that old though) to trick the O2 sensors and a ton cheaper than electronic MIL eliminators...

I did this to my buddies 08... its the same one I was talking about up there a minute ago... Not one CEL yet and its been on for a few thousand miles... He did the exhaust but used my non foulers and it works perfectly... A lot of Honda guys use this trick too...

here is a link with what someone else did...

i didn't read this whole thread but I think he is doing it on his front O2... I just posted it for picture reference but we would use it on the rears in this case
